Years ago we sent a committee to Austin to try to study how to be more like them. I'm sure they ate and drank a lot on the taxpayer's dime. That's about all that ever became of it though.

Tallahassee is surprisingly hilly. You’d think of Florida being such a flat state that Tallahassee would also be flat. Interesting topography in and around Tallahassee.

Yeah, maybe not "hilly" per se, but around the center of Tallahassee there really is some weird topography with a slope going through downtown.

Louisiana - Complete opposite

Unfortunately with our extra 16.8 million citizens, this can't be true.

Apples to oranges.

Baton Rouge’s metro area is nearly 3 times the size of Tallahassee.

Colorado Springs and Atlanta are similar in population size as are Omaha and Miami when excluding the metro area.

I’m not sure city limit size is a good comparison when considering the crime problems.

In the 1970’s, the cities were almost identical in demographics, population size, gdp, etc. However, Austin exploded with growth and BR didn’t. Austin jumped on the tech wagon while BR’s oil boom went bust in the 80’s. Austin made itself a boutique destination city by marketing itself as a place for weird funky art hippies while Baton Rouge had Cash Money Records taking over for the 99 and the 2000’s.

Austin and Baton Rouge have never had even close to the same demographics.

This. According to Wikipedia:

Tallahassee
City - 194,500
Urban - 240,223
Metro - 385,145

Baton Rouge
City - 220,236
Urban - 595,309
Metro - 830,480

Baton Rouge is also much more industrialized than Tallahassee and has been for 100+ years.

You remember that too? Wasn’t it around the time of Tom Ed Mchugh? BR wanted to be like Austin so bad it was laughable. They were so enamored with being “weird” like Austin.
