But that wasn't just in Baton Rouge.. I have an aunt who still holds a grudge against him today and she is in her 60s.. She said all she wanted to do was hear him play Dinosaur and he couldn't cut back off the pills and booze long enough to even do that.

Yeah frick that dude. Without going into detail a family member was able to get my grandma to change her will (long story short, my pops had passed away by then).. Im not getting into it, but right before my grandmother was brought to the living facility, with the help of some sorry shady arse lawyer, after my grandma wouldn't budget on changing her will (they evidently brought her to his office first thing that morning she eventually changed it soon after 5PM that day). Guess what they used the money for?

Yeah if you want to scam idiots just find people who are die hards of any political side, convince them you share the same views as them and that opens a whole new level of trust. Of course it works with religion as well.

Easy targets are people who already know the side they are on, on any issue, without even wanting to hear all of the details. You just redirect that mindset to what you are selling. All you have to do is appear confident. Evidently if you are as good as Allen Stanford all it takes is a one, less than an hour meeting.

This. He was giving 12% returns on CDs when the legitimate rate was around 3%. Anyone who thought it was a legitimate business was a fool. I know several who lost about $5MM each. It was hard for me not to laugh in their face when they lost it all. AFAIK the claw backs were not successful

The dude in Shreveport who was operating the same time as Stanford was targeting oil and gas operators with eight figure and up net worth. One of the guys he scammed had an MBA from the London School of Economics. Nobody's immune if a scammer finds the right buttons to push.

Sadly, Stanford kept it going for years luring people in with the returns. Word of mouth helped out also. I know folks who were taken to the Bahamas and wined and dined on helicopters and private islands multiple times. Most investors got returns regularly. They were advertising themselves as FDIC insured allegedly which the Gov knew was going on and at the same time untrue (feds later denied coverage in SPIC) and had brick and mortar stores with local people selling the products and vouching for all of this. These people (Stanford account execs) are still around and doing well after all of this. The Feds knew about it several years before hand yet couldn’t build a case against them and let it go on for a few years and allowed many people to lose more money. Then the Feds and courts ruled this was no good because it was technically based partly in the Bahamas, despite having lots of brick and mortar and employees here in the States. MANY doctors, lawyers, plant workers etc… lost a lot, if not all their life savings. The Feds have still refused any SPIC coverage despite covering all the Bernie Madoff investors fully to the extent of SPIC coverage. Other’s commenting about this that say it was “easy to spot” this are woefully ignorant on the subject.

Some investors have gotten bits and pieces of their money back from lawsuits and settlements against all the large banks and institutions that helped peddle this Stanford product either knowingly or w/o doing their own due diligence. Pennies on the dollar at best.

It was easy to spot. I had several conversations with Stanford “investors” where they were bragging about how great it was. The whole time I was thinking to myself….”if something sounds too good to be true it usually is”. Their greed blinded them. That’s why I really don’t feel sorry for them.

Friend of mine supplied most of the chairs, desks and safes for the business. She was out $2M when all was said and done. Word on the skreetz was that although Stanford would take forever and a day to pay you, it was worth the wait for the profit they made.

She supplied 4 very expensive safes and shipped them to Aruba

That was pretty crazy and I kind of forgot the whole situation, but I know a family who had ties to him by relation or through something and I just being something random that I found out about once it all went down and it was just kind of out of the blue that there was a connection with those folks and him.
