Ehh… I’m fine. I get pretty far off the road when I see a car coming. I’m more worried about the kids playing in the street.

Happened to us just last night. For all the good qualities my better half has, self-preservation isn’t one of them. Basically had to scream to get out of the way…that car is looking at their phone.

Nobody uses the bike paths on top of the levee, on government street, etc.

I did during my time there. Where I live now is a lot more friendly to pedestrians.

I left for work this morning well before sunrise and saw 2 people riding their bikes on Old Hammond Hwy and one on Airline. It's not just the drivers that are retarded around here.

My neighborhood is full of sidewalks but even at peak neighbor traffic hours of dropping kids at carpool or returning from work all these walkers STILL walk in the road while the sidewalks are there rotting.

Even at the pinch points of traffic these a-hole walkers are in the freaking street because asphalt feels better on their stupid knees.

But they'll ride in traffic on Highland Road. I've seen them exercising on River Road at 6AM in fog even though there is a bike bath on top of the adjacent levee
You seem to be confusing exercise with commuting. Different riders have different goals in riding.

I’m guilty of running on subdivision streets instead of the sidewalk. Asphalt is most definitely easier on the knees.

I'm guessing they aren't taking out the bullet caused fatalities.

Of course it’s intentional. Roads pretend to be public utilities but their primary purpose is segregation.

Just look at Nicholson Hwy as one example. Developers are putting up new subdivisions, on both sides of the road, from LSU to Iberville Parish. Yet, Nicholson remains the same 2 lane highway it's been forever.

Why should more than 99.99% of the population give a shite about the dozen or so nutjobs that insist on biking around town on major roads in this miserable swamp rot heat and humidity?
. Any idea what this chit costs for so little use it gets?

Good example-- Almost no one uses the Government Street "traffic calming " bike lanes the City just HAD to put in.

85% of the hood rats I see daily still use the sidewalks and frankly I don't blame them. You'd have to have a screw loose to use those bike lanes during heavy traffic, and most people still speed down Govt street despite the downsizing to two lanes.

Contributing factors include a lack of sidewalks and bike lanes

The world does need more bike lanes, it needs less cyclists

That was done to appease the mid-city hipster residents.

I live on River Road and, although a lot of bikers use the levee, it never ceases to amaze me the number of people who ride on the road between Skip Bertman and Lauberge. I don't understand riding on River Road when there is a perfectly good paved bike path on top of the levee.
