Claude Pennington had horse stables and a pond that we would sneak into and catch bass. He caught us one time and didn't even care.

Agreed. But that lake (pond) was pretty cool. I think the Cadillac dealership people lived in the mansion on the northwest side.

Shopoer’s Fair is the store where BRCC is now. After Shopper’s Fair closed, it was the Flea Market. Globe was across Florida at the corner of Ardenwood if my memory bus correct. And next door to it was Wilson’s/Service Merchandise.

You are correct. After I saw the Shoppers Fair mentioned I remembered that. And someone said Rebel Drive In and that’s right too.

I get older each time one of these threads are mentioned so I may be getting foggy. But I’m not hiding my own Easter eggs yet.

Man, that’s a memory. I went to Billy there. He had some emotional issues and quit, so I started to go his brother John at LSU barbershop.

Ruby’s off college drive. It was a cool place. I remember the guy that owned it was named Gordon. Doc

Went to high school with his son. The dude (dad I mean) was once robbed at Ruby’s and shot one of the robbers (maybe two). He was a great guy.

It also had a branch in the Broadmoor shopping center. There was an old post office next to it.

Not only shoes, but they could repair baseball golves and sew patches on letterman jackets too.

Little Italy was on Allelo Drive off Florida behind the funeral home

This was one of my family's go to places and admittedly I was young but I remember it being close to Lobdell on Florida on the bottom floor corner of a small multi-story building close to the S&H stamp store. Could be wrong.

My parents knew the owner well and he was in the same family (maybe brother or cousins) with the owner of Europes down Airline. The other go to Italian spot for us.

I also remember he lost his wife and one of his daughters in an airline crash in the late 70s.

Steinberg's and that huge stuffed polar bear. I loved going there as a kid.

I also remember all the rifles/shotguns they had hanging off the ceiling with the Carcano model (Oswald rifle) near the entrance. Loved going to that store when I was a kid.

1973, first job running the Exxon gas station at Airline and I 10. Future wife and best friends used to plan on which of the 3 Holiday Inn's we would go to for lunch buffet on Sunday. The one in Port Allen, North Baton Rouge or South BR. Used to call and find out the menu.

And we lived in a little rent house at Evangeline and 610. I imagine the area has gone down since then.

there was also a seafood market on Plank Road with great seafood po boys.

Ice cream stand on Nicholson Drive north of LSU was Hopper's. Was open until the late 60's.

A guy bought the name and opened a large Ice Cream parlor in Drusilla Village Shopping center(I think). Which was open in the 80's and 90's. Advertised a lot pushing it as a Birthday party spot.
