Where are you seeing that? I'm on google earth and don't see it

Google maps
I went to street view, put my little man in that cup de sac and saw the levee, the house and a dump truck dropping dirt loads off.
Heck the dump truck has its lights on.
There’s some big, black steel tank to the right. Looks like a huge BQ pit. Latter-Blum sign.Ladder leaning against the house. A nice pond.

It’s easy to see that this guy is getting screwed over by the over development in the area. Take a look at the aerial historical images dating back to the 80’s.

He should be the one suing.

He said he built 35 years ago, That was around 1986, and after the huge floods of 79 and 82. He had to know that area was in a flood zone. I wonder what his elevation is?

A lot of land in that area flooded in 82. But he may not have known.

Lol, you can actually see a dump truck dumping more dirt for his levee!

That dirt isn’t being used for his levee…that dirt is being used to raise the elevation for the house that’s going to be built right there. That is exactly the reason why his house now floods.

He may not have known. Well when you purchase property in the middle of nowhere (in 85 that was nothing there) and you are adjacent to a huge canal/creek shouldn’t try and find out?
I wonder if his house was permitted? It looks very low.

There’s a house with one of these on Elliot Rd by Clay Cut Bayou.

Maybe he could have built in gaps that could quickly be filled with sandbags to be “legal”. Or maybe it would have been ok if the berm was closer to the house with less impact on area drainage. Interesting.

Perhaps, but that lot is as high as the adjacent lots. Maybe they are filling in something in the back.

His house floods because it was always in a flood zone from day one. IMHO Now it could be exacerbated by the developments, but he’s low. It is a beautiful piece of property.

If he’d use a water dam it would be perfectly legal.

So a temporary structure only used when it’s flooding is fine but a permanent structure that only serves a purpose when it’s flooding is not?

Is it fine for him to surround his house with sand bags? If he does, is he required to pick them up?

The vast majority of that neighborhood is 10 feet above this guys property. Also, seemingly they have installed storm water mitigation systems. And that dirt you’re seeing brought in may not be actually raising the property, I really don’t know but it may be being used simply because it’s better soil than existing (which could be being excavated)

The dude built in a poor spot and didn’t get permits. Sucks but it is what it is

Do you think that Baton Rouge PTB understand that water flows downhill?

If they don't keep the drainage system established they should shut the f up.

Also why does the city care about this?

They do not want people taking care of shite themselves. They want you to depend on the government.

That’s what Iberville Parish does and the judge says it’s OK.

they'd require that he build up the house pad to a higher elevation to meet newer standards.

Standards that were made long after he built his house. BTW, how the hell do you just raise a house and build a higher pad under it?
