So the 2nd would still be entitled to half of the community assets? So he just gets nothing?

I don't remember exactly how it works. But you'd have to determine which assets are community of the first marriage and which are of the 2nd. I don't know how much overlap there is between the two. But the bottom line is both wives could conceivably have community property rights and both could conceivably have spousal support rights. The reasoning is the 2nd woman in theory entered into what she thought was a valid marriage with all of the rights and obligations that come with it. She shouldn't be screwed out of those rights simply because this guy was already married and didn't bother to tell her.

I would think everything that's community property of the 2nd is that of the 1st as well, but not vice versa. Everything purchased before the 2nd marriage would be only property of the 1st.

Bigamy is a crime of having two or more marriage licenses. Marriage license applicants also swear under oath that they are not currently married, etc.

Not sure why this is a legal issue that would land him in jail.

I can’t see where any limits on marriage short of age of consent can now legally stand. Bigamy, polygamy, incest, whatever. Now that traditional definitions of marriage have been cast aside, there really is nothing left to bar just about any marriage so long as everyone involved is a consenting adult.

Woah now Darth

That can lead to serious birth defects in children. That is why that is illegal.

The rest I agree with.

Bigamy is having one wife too many. Monogamy is the same.

Goddamn, their is someone in that dudes head peering out of through his nostrils.

On a side note why jail him? The punishment for being married to two women at the same time is being married to two women at the same time.

The short answer is that the 2nd marriage wasn't valid to begin with but the 2nd wife can still enjoy the rights that come with a valid marriage assuming she didn't know about the 1st marriage. Putative spouse doctrine

This could actually be rather interesting to watch. The Dude becomes a bystander and gets to watch the wives battle it out for the stuff.
