I guess there is a reason 50%+ of the streetlights are out in Jefferson Terrace and the potholes aren’t being fixed anymore.

It’s no difference in BR,
Lighting isn’t fixed, streets don’t get striped and potholes aren’t addressed. Things get trashier and trashier as the govt. decays while they devote resources to bike share, bike paths, grocery stores, greenways, and not to basic services.

Why can’t all the police and firefighters laid off by the creating of St. George just go work for the new police and fire departments that St. George will need?

SG is served by SGFD already.
SG is served by the sheriff.
We are fine thank you.

Here is an argument to be made-

BR is getting their A graded FD based off the backs of StG taxpayers while they are also paying for StGFD

Because you know these frickers are going to complain that grade will be endangered by the budget cuts.

SG is paying for our FD, it’s not a class A dept., and to make BRFD class A.

We are getting sued for wanting to stop the nonsense.

Better Together is getting better and better definition. What it really means is BR is better with your money,

Can we substitute the water with Brawndo? It will give plants the electrolytes they need in NBR.

The incessant downvotes in this thread are amusing.
The funniest part about them is that none of them are intelligent enough to counter any points in this thread, which is why they respond with useless “downvotes”.

ETA: And it is only two people too.

Scruffy can only imagine how intellectually challenged those two individuals are.

The Advocate should have written this article months ago, why now?

I can think of only three people pathetic enough to do this.

Two of them aren’t supposed to be mentioned because they are litigious bitches.

The third one? 76-24.

Because why would have pissed off the St George residents even more and proven that the St. George projected funds would more than cover the government expenditures.

The fact that any of them simply downvote instead of posting just shows how simpleminded they are.

Scruffy bets they aren’t even aware that the downvotes don’t even mean anything.

They are probably dumb enough to believe it is like Reddit.

Sorry Captain Kingshit, I was unaware that StG had its own fire department. I support the StG initiative and was just wondering why the argument that BR is making about having to lay off so many police and firefighters couldn’t be countered.

Maybe the initiative would have less resistance if there were less people like yourself running around with an air of superiority, mocking people (who live in a completely different state for that matter) when they ask simple questions.

TL;DR: Baton Rouge has been using ~$60 million collected from St. George each year to pay for a lot of their city services such as BRPD and BRFD. Now they're throwing a fit because St. G passed and they don't know how to fund services that only serve the city of BR and have never served the St. G area, despite using their tax dollars to fund it.

sounds like the city has to raise taxes

also, it's pretty shitty these cuts are being forced on parish offices like the DAs office. imagine the shortfall for the city if the parish services were left without decrease and only BR-city ones faced cuts

You know there have been threads on this for several years now, going back to the initial petition in 2015 right?

A lot of these arguments have been made and remade numerous times, hence why some are quick to shut them down. Because we have literally heard them 100 times before.

Sucks for the parish offices but how much of their budget is being paid by BR, Baker, Zachary, and Central now?

Unincorporated EBR, mainly StG, has been paying freight on all parish costs while cities are covering their own costs.

Or cut the fat. The city's proposed operating budget for 2020 is over a billion dollars. A billion.

St. George has already pledged to contribute their share to the DA's office.

I get that, but wouldn’t it be smarter and more efficient to answer the question quickly and concisely for someone who doesn’t know, as opposed to taking more time to throw an underhanded insult at someone who just wants to know more?

If one is so supportive of an issue and takes it as seriously as that poster does, he should be able to answer questions like that with respect and dignity as opposed to treating people who don’t know like shite. Maybe that’s why so many people are against StG, because of the pompous assholes defending it like it’s their own personal kingdom.
