disclaimer: I am 100% NOT trying to minimize the economic vibrancy and financial diversity of BR by implying that it relies 100% on lsu football for support

BUT, what would the economic ramifactions, in terms of ripple effects, be in the short term for BR if lsu has no fb this year?

that's a lot of fall revenue lost for the establishments around the city.

Dodge dealerships in Tuscaloosa are going to bite the pillow this fall.

It would hurt bars, restaurants and hotels for sure. Lsu sports is certainly a big business.

Louisiana should have diversified it’s economy beyond O&G a long time ago. No excuse not to have other economic strengths besides petro. The fact that there’s a thread on the impact of a college football team not playing could be detrimental to a city with a metro pop of 830k is very very telling.

Not a bash LSU football post, but more of a “why the hell are you relying on a college football team as one of your primary economic drivers?” Jesus.

I am not implying that. I have no idea what the economic effects would be. BR is a lot more than lsu fball.

my question is: all that diner, bar, and restaurant revenue would be up in smoke without lsu fans on saturdays. servers would lose tips. that will cause a ripple effect throughout the city.

BR's economy is mostly petrochemical, lawyers, government, insurance and Healthcare. You certainly aren't going to find many fortune 1000 businesses here but LSU football not happening wouldn't send the entire economy into a tailspin either.

Tuscaloosa's mayor hinted at around a $20 million dollar reduction if no Alabama football in Tuscaloosa this year. I imagine BR is in the same order of this estimation.

It's gonna be fun to watch LSU tell everyone with season tickets that they're not getting any of their money back after the season is cancelled

Nah they already set the precedent with baseball tickets refunds or the option for. I want my money back. Every freaking penny I’m eligible for.

Yeah. They might get their ticket price back but no way they are returning the TAF “donation”.

There is a "Tide Pride" where you have to donate a shite ton of money to get the good seats in Tuscaloosa. I assume they won't refund that, but just the "face value" of the tickets.
Does LSU do something similar about getting the good seats?

From the link you obviously didn't read

quote:

fans spent $65.7 million in the Baton Rouge metro area while attending LSU football games in 2012, an average of $8.2 million per game.
