Yeah, 10 hour days makes it easy to get a 13 hr average. Even taking 40 hours off.

If he is a union official he could easily be in Vegas for a convention that allows for pay. This is speculation though.

That is 520 hours of vacation he will use.
How is that possible? Does he get that every year? Because he has done this OT mulltiple years in a row

Good god how much vacation do they get a year? I'm happy with my 3 weeks. They must be getting at least a month or two.

Unless he lives inside the police station, he's going to spend some time on the road getting to and from work so that free time is getting reduced by a little bit. but who knows, he could be the one person in baton rouge who never gets caught in traffic.

No it's not. 90 hour work weeks are not easy to get to. Especially every week for the entire year. It's a lie.

There are 168 hours in a week. 90 spent working. 42 spent sleeping. 18 more spent on free time in the "off" day. Thats 150 of the hours gone right there.

18 left. So no none of this is true.

The actions in your scenario are blatant abuse. He takes 10 hours of leave with the intent to work those 10 hours later but get paid OT? If you do it every now and then that's one thing but to do it 52 weeks a year indicates that it is a scheme to get time and a half pay and to game the retirement system.

Also in your scenario he is working five 16's every week without fail and even if he never misses a day or takes vacation he is still 97 hours short.

Oh, and to do this in consecutive years? Wow.

That is impressive. Is he the sole operator of the company or is an owner of a business that his wife runs?

Also, does he show horses or does he own a horse that his kid's show?

The Vegas trip wasn't recent. It was back in 2011 I think. Sorry, that was misleading and itrelevant info. He only worked 992 hours of OT in 2011.

Normally that would seem like a lot.

I worked 320 days two years in a row. Of course I was paid a day rate not hourly. 12 hour days in the oilfield too. But I was MWD which means I watched movies to most

Sounds like you know the guy, too. His wife handles most of the business end but it is run out of the police hall which is weird.

The horse is for his kid. I assume there is some adult participation/responsibility that comes into play at some point.

That's awesome, and you only came up 900 work hours short of our good Lieutenant last year. Maybe next year you can work 365 13 hours a day.

Was it hard? This guy still worked a good bit more than you. I'm not sure if he was allowed to watch movies doe.

I have no clue who he is, just have worked with people like him.

There is usually an explanation in these situations, although it does come off over the top when looking at the surface.

So basically, the parish's PTO accrual / rollover system is incredibly stupid. There should be mandatory vacation time and you should not get to rollover your unused time forever. This saves money and helps prevent fraud.

I am a little surprised that there hasn't been some internal backlash honestly. The fact that he commands the unit and doles out all of that grant OT to himself and his guys exclusively would seem to raise the hackles of others. But I guess not?

The DWI OT is available for any BRPD officer to work. Most officers on the department have no desire to work it, even though it's available to everyone.

There are certain types of people that will game any system you put in front of them.

In a way, I guess it is smart on their behalf to maximize their incomes.

There is that word fraud again

The parish's PTO accrual/rollover system was given as a benefit in the place of monetary compensation. It was presented in the manner of, "what we can't give you in salary, we will give you in retirement and benefits".

Not sure how the rollover and accrual is an issue and or a problem.

If for example, I am given 10 days off a year and I work 10 years, then that's 100 days off that my employer has given me as a benefit over the course of my employment.

How is taking 10 days off every year any different or better than me waiting 5 years and then taking 50 days off and then waiting another 5 years and taking the remaining 50 days off. At the end of 10 years, 100 days were given by the employer and 100 days were taken off by the employer.

If leave can be taken and it doesn't create manpower or staffing issues, how is it a problem?
