As everyone knows in Nola you get boot for unpaid tickets. Anyway, my wife got booted twice in a one month period recently and owed fines or $1500 the first time and $600 the second time for parking and speed camera tickets dating back to 2014. You would think after the first booting all the fines would be paid up. It’s a god damn money grab, you BR folks are lucky they don’t scan plates.

Article reads that he has over 100 tickets! Over 100 times he has blown through a red light. That dude is going toget someone seriously hurt or killed.

They get you for ticky tack shite too like not coming to a full 100% stop on a right turn on red. My wife got one for stopping too far over the white line. It's not all people just blowing through red lights at 50 MPH.

I thought about doing that last time I got one because I've seen you post this before

I just don't want to acknowledge that I received anything.

I've sat in the red light court and most of the people that fight the tickets can't seem to understand the concept of coming to a full stop prior to making a right hand turn. Most people slow to a roll but will argue 6 ways to Sunday they stopped when the video clearly shows they didn't.

My issue with them is that there's no proof who the driver was.

So I have to be a snitch or pay a ticket? I’ll take option C and do neither. I shouldn’t have to show up for something you have no proof that I did.

While true, the owner of the vehicle can advise the court who the driver is and make them responsible for it.

The American justice system was founded on a small but vital concept of being innocent until proven guilty. You just flipped that basic concept on its head for the sole purpose of generating revenue. Think about that for a minute. Not being hyperbolic here at all, what you are telling me is that it is OK to charge anyone with a crime and all they have to do is prove they didn’t do it to not be held responsible. Does that sound like a good system?

Let’s just extend that concept to all misdemeanors as well. Some store owner says he saw you shoplift? No problem, just prove you didn’t. Until then, here is a summons and don’t sweat the fine and six months in Parish Prison if you can’t come up with a witness, alibi or store video.

Don't be a drama queen. You don't necessarily have to "blow through a light" to get a ticket.

If you stop your car a inch past the white line that isn't even visible half the time, you get one. Dude might have never blew thru a red light

I very rarely park in New Orleans because of the booting. There's no way I'd be able to get the money for that many tickets + late fees + boot fees in a day. I just drive one of my gf's cars instead

If you can do math. According to the article, the city issued 58.2MM in tickets, 50% of which was paid, which is 29.1MM...but claim they are owed 43MM..which is about a 50% interest rate on monies owed from tickets.

Who in the frick pays traffic camera tickets?

.

Not necessarily. There is a camera at a major intersection in BR that goes off and issues a ticket when you take a legal right on red.

But I will say this. College drive was terrible for crashes. Shortly after the cameras when up, the crashes were greatly reduced. So it does have some benefit.

And this is why these tickets aren't enforceable. Municipalities cannot meet the requisite standard under criminal law so they had to come up with nonsense of a civil fine.
