you want a long drawn-out process to minimize the chance of putting the wrong person behind bars. But if it's just a ticket for $100, then if they get the wrong guy it isn't really that big a deal.

Since you are so cool with tossing $100’s around, I will send my people by your place later to collect some from you.

If you aren't cool with tossing $100's around, make sure your car isn't in the photo. It really is that simple.

Oh that's great. Let's just totally get rid of the burden of proof since it isn't that big of a deal.

I swear, people just beg to let the government screw them these days. Unbelievable. (eyeroll.gif)

So you don't lose your license or anything for not paying?

Hell I wouldn't pay either

All I know is that I feel like a bum for paying one back in 2013. If I would have been plugged into the OT then, I would have told them to piss off.

They don't do shite in BR. They send you a few threatening letters but nothing ever happens

The problem with your argument is that traffic offenses are not usually criminal offenses to start with.

Traffic offenses are most definitely criminal offenses. What else would they be?

No, they really can't do anything because it isn't a criminal offense. It is a "civil citation" and the collection company is a private company from some other state.

Has anyone here ever gotten a letter from collections about unpaid red light camera tickets in BR? I lightly came to a stop making a right from Coursey to Sherwood. That was in July 2017.

Some firm in Texas sent me a letter in the mail saying it was collections in March I believe. Does that stuff ever actually go on you credit report?

They don't do anything. Read the link below.

It used to but the credit companies stopped honoring their requests years back because they (the credit companies) were having to remove the collections reports because the red light companies could never show proof of an obligation.

From LINK

quote:

Traffic offenses are usually considered minor offenses in most states. Simple traffic violations usually lead to a traffic ticket and are considered infractions. However, if traffic offense is more serious than the offense can lead to misdemeanor or even felony charges. These are considered criminal offenses and usually involve a trial and other prolonged legal consequences.

In other words, running a red light is not a criminal offense, it's a very minor infraction with a low penalty.

Good for him for not paying but he needs to quit running red lights.

It’s not always about running a red light.

There’s a camera on Sherwood & Coursey that will nail you for a legal right turn on red. Every time.

And that’s just the one I know about.

Posted this a while back. Go ahead and wipe that slate clean!

If you don't park in the city much I wouldn't worry about it. All they can do is boot your car. No repercussions from the law for not paying them. But I do have a simple solution if you do park in the city after getting a ticket. Just "lose" the license plate and get a new one. The cost for a replacement is 36 bucks compared to the price of the ticket. The system for booting registers your plate number. Once the old one is "lost" and replaced your slate is wiped clean. Each ticket you get, wash, rinse, and repeat. Screw this over governing municipalities trying to milk us for every dime. Here's a link for your replacement plate Lol. Hope this helps.

That's not at all what your quoted text says. It's says a very minor offense - which is true - it's a very minor criminal offense. This really isn't debatable. When you go to dispute a ticket, you have to argue against a municipality or district prosecutor. Prosecutors prosecute criminal offenses.

You can go to jail for traffic offenses, although that rarely happens.

Why bother when you can pay $100 and move on?

Not for red light cameras you can't.
