Then what barbershop/salon are they talking about? What restaurant are they referring to, other than Overpass Merchant? K-Street Grill or George's?

Just wonder how the interstates in Baton Rouge will handle this since for years traffic has only trickled into BR. Now it will be coming in at a faster pace with this widening.

I grew up next to the Overpass (Reymond Ave.) and my mom now lives in Soutdowns walking distance to Ivars/Merchant.

Really love how far that area has come, especially for her property value. Really hope this doesn't completely ruin it.

Are Bolton's and Ivar's fine? George's? Schlitz?

The Merchant & the restaurant under the interstate are one in the same. 4 properties.
The merchant
Convenient Store
Salon and Barber Shop are under the interstate on the opposite side of Duvics

A lot of those residential properties are already empty and are virtually useless.

ETA: I do agree that they need sound walls through those neighborhoods. Maybe even a sound tunnel over the overpass area.

The Merchant is one of the best places in BR. Sucks that it has to go but garbage George's stays. Age before beauty I suppose.

What about Bolton's Pharmacy? Someone said that Troy's in not in danger, but that's the barbershop you're talking about. I don't see how K-Street Grill can be saved since it's literally underneath the interstate. They spent a shite ton of money renovating and restoring that place. Same for the Overpass Merchant.

that store, although its now a ghetto blunts-and-purple drank store, was from the 1950's thru the 90's called Service Grocery and was owned by my grandfather and later he and his son. they were butchers, and ran one of the last full-service small butcher shops in the area.

Gmaps of Service market Grocery

This crappy place? This was the only other one I guessed when it was mentioned. Others said Cracker Barrel on Perkins but that didn't make sense.

And is this the Barber Shop?

It's under Perkins, NOT I-0.

And Fresh Salon is right up against 10 on Christian.

Pretty sure he owns the fricking building and leases it to its current tenants, who happen to be friends with his son.

Man if they get rid of Bolton's I'll be upset.

Was my pharmacy my entire life and is a great place owned by great people. I love an old school neighborhood pharmacy.

These businesses add a lot to this neighborhood.

K Street is under the overpass not the interstate. They’d have to knock down the main entrance in the Garden District.

For the record all of the shite hole bars in that area are full of pretentious douches bags anyway.

I will never understand why miserable people bother to post on here. LSU sucks. Baton Rouge sucks. LA sucks. Everything sucks, blah, blah, blah.
