Teams from 12 states will be competing over the next week in the Southern Regional soccer tourney. That's great for Baton Rouge businesses but how in the world did the city convince others that soccer in late June in BR is a good idea.

What do you think the over/under on heat related illnesses will be?

Most of the kids/players will be fine. Soccer players are in really good shape and can handle it. A few parents may pass out though.

Yeah, we made regionals a few times when I did club soccer. We went to Dallas, Tulsa, and Atlanta. They were all hotter than Hades, but even in the 80's we knew to prepare and drink a ton of water leading up to the tournament. Coaches wouldn't even let us drink a Coke with meals - water only.

Field temp for one of our games in Tulsa was 103. That sucked because the field was hard as a rock and sliding on it felt like sliding on asphalt.

They were already playing at the Burbank park early this morning when I was on the way to work. Maybe that’s how, having games early in the day.

My son plays at 6 tonight, tomorrow, and Sunday, so his times are pretty good.

Even though we’re close we still are mandated to book a number of hotel rooms for multiple nights.

He had fun at opening ceremonies last night, gotta buncha digits (Snapchat addresses now I guess), so that makes him happy.
