Looks like the previous owner toasted some frozen waffles in there. Are you sure that it's not a toaster of some kind?
Congrats on showing your age, or lack there of

Do it. They are great and, while not kid-safe to touch, they are safe to run on low for hours without supervision. Just turn off before you go to bed.
I used to have an old 2 story house built in 1938 and we had two of these upstairs. Warmed all 3 bedrooms this way in about 15 minutes.

I grew up w those. Hold your towel a few inches out in front of it. It will get toasty. Nothing better

there's not much to it. take the cover off by taking the 4 screws and the knob off. if the metal box that the burner sits in is not rusted out, you're probably good to go. if the box is rusted out, it could let heat/flames in the stud bay, which would not be good.
i saw a house fire related to one that was not lit. the gas line broke inside the wall, and when he flipped the light switch, the spark ignited the gas.

any house old enough to have that in has plenty of ventilation, whether you want it or not.

I have that same bathroom but the heater is too close to the toilet so youre legs would touch it when going doo doo so somebody before me took the guts out of it....house built in 1929. I need to do something with that such as taking out the heater and building some shelves to store shite tickets

Man you reminded me of my grandparents’ house. Wish I had one of those in my bathroom.

I'd like to have one of those, but I'm afraid that would be just one more heater my wife would put on max and heat up the bathrooms to 85 degrees.

Just make sure the room is sealed up super airtight. And if that doesn't work, put your head in the oven.
Jk I love those heaters. Yes safe to light but seriously, get a CO detector and install nearby.

My grandparents in North-Central Mississippi had one of those in their bathroom. That fricker could crank out some heat and, yes, that tile got cold as frick.
Does look like it needs a little cleaning, but any dust on the heating tiles (the waffle looking tiles in the back if the heater) will burn off.
Do NOT go to sleep with it on.

Put in a magazine rack. I put Superman and Batman comics in mine.

I rigged one of those expanding clothes drying racks in front of this heater to hold my towels while I showered. Seriously, nothing better than wrapping yourself in a hot towel after a shower on a cold winter's night.

Use to have an exact one of those in my bathroom. Would only light it when I was taking a bath or shower. Man would it get the room hot and fast. I would turn it on low as possible and keep the door open.

Well, if it ever caused the house to burn down, I doubt they would have put it back in. So, clean it and use it. Mom use to say the first person up was to light the heater, last person was to turn it off.

The pic in the OP is a generic pic it’s not of my actual heater. I inspected it last night the ceramic looks brand new. Need to take it apart and clean it though lot of dust on the burner
