Back in the late 80s to the mid-90s, Winston's was a place called Bandi's Tavern. We freaking lived there. Much better back then-- more down to earth and less fancy. They had a beach volleyball court in the back and a "train special"-- when a train passed, 50 cent shots (maybe a dollar, hard to recall). Great jukebox, too.

Back then, before any of us had kids, my friends and I had a team in a men's rec basketball league, and always went there afterwards for beers. We spent so much money at the bar that we convinced them to do a "corporate sponsorship"- they paid our entry fees and we officially were listed as th Evil Clowns of Bandi's Tavern.

It is a little weird how there are less and less neighborhood bars anymore.

Breweries play a part. More trendy, I suppose.

I dont see how many of these smaller places survived COVID.

Lamplighter is not old Metairie unless you ask 08.
It is one of the trashiest places I’ve ever been in

yea man it's filthy. Sometimes you just need a real dark shite hole with a bartender you suspect is a serial killer.

Bandi's was my hangout in the early 90's. So many times when we'd be playing sand volleyball and half of us would temporarily abandon the game when we heard the trains. Dollar shots FTW.

I was in Tuesday and Thursday night darts leagues, so I spent lots of time in Martine's back when Wayne owned the place. I went there the last time that I was in town back in summer of 2018. Completely different vibe now. Not saying that it's a bad thing, just caught me by surprise.

Mama's Place has excellent food. Last time I was in town, definitely stopped by on Monday for some red beans and rice.

Oscar's was a nice place and had great burgers. That said, while it's not Old Metairie, nothing was better than a late night burger at the old Bottom Line on Division.

Someone please help out an old guy and his fading memory...didn't many of the Old Metry bars have "4 ball" games where you could win $$?

I don’t know what I’m trying to say here, that just looks cool to me and that y’all all have your ‘go to’ spots. I’m sure those walls know all the local gossip.

That's an old picture but my friends and I hung out there late 60's early 70's. Bartender was "Sarge". Long bar on the left as you came in the front door. Long Shuffleboard table on the right t wall. Up against the wall farthest from the front door separating the bar from storage and bathroom there was a pinball machine. New with paddles, not a paying out biffer.

The next room after storage and the bathroom was off limits because of the private poker game always ongoing.

It was a unique coming of age and a unique place.

Harahan/River Ridge has some great dives like Rickshaw Lounge, Triangle West, and Riverside Tavern- almost perfect bars IMO. A dying breed too unfortunately.

Winstons. It’s no better than the others, but the high prices keep most of y’all out.

Lived on Homestead for a couple of years. Loved being able to walk to Electric Cocktail, awesome place.

Grew up on Homestead. Was a paperboy at the substation next to Pete’s Bonnabel Bar (Electric Cocktail now). Used to rip off RC Colas from Pete’s in an elaborate scheme using the bathroom window and a support team. The bartenders had to know about it. Good people. I always feel terrible about that.
