I’m a big fan of all of them. JBs is probably my favorite, but Oscars has the best burger. May walk over there later today now that I’m thinking about it

seems like a cool little step back in time. I don’t drink anymore so I probably wouldn’t go even if I lived in the area, but a neighborhood bar would be great to have in the local area to meet people and keep a community together.

New Orleans is full of dozens of little hole in the wall neighborhood bars...If you cant walk to a couple neighborhood bars in the city then you aint living right.

Yep. Towns and cities where you have to drive to everything get trite and old pretty quick. If you can’t walk to anything you might as well live on acreage.

It is a little weird how there are less and less neighborhood bars anymore. Worth some analysis as to why that is.

I like mamas place too because I’m slightly trashy.

I use to go there but that big blond bimbo (manager?) is just too stupid for words. Lou and Bob's is not too bad.. There are some real good "old man cooks" that go in there.

My uncle would take me to the Metry cafe when I was a little kid (like 6-8 years old) in the mid to late 80s on days where I’d stay with him and my grandma. He was a regular there and would stop in for a late afternoon beer.

I remember playing the spy hunter arcade machine and the claw machine every single time. One time I snagged a deck or nuddie playing cards and I can still remember the “oh shite” look on his face when I wanted to open them up.

I’ve been noticing this for years now. In my opinion it’s not a new thing. That being said, there seems to be a plethora of breweries in every city these days, even some towns with less than 10,000 people have a couple of breweries, if not more.

Most of them are dive bars.

I don’t believe you know what a “dive bar” is..
I’d call them more of a neighborhood bar..

Snake and Jakes is a dive bar...

Down vote for leaving Gennaro’s out..

Snake and Jake’s sucks. It’s a late night Tulane/Loyola spot that they think is cool.

Not really. Lots of older people tend to gravitate there around 1-4 am

In mid city - there used to be a bar on the corner of Toulouse and n Murat - it was just known as Joe & Eileen’s - it was a dive bar - does anyone know if it’s still there?

My parents used to go there after my uncle closed his bar

JBs has become the new Red Eye since COVID has Orleans bars out of business. Tons of Ronnies and they even have a "doorman" now

Is that the real name? Lol I grew up around the corner, and my parents used to go there - it’s still there?

Yeah. Great spot. Just got new owners. Kind of redid the outside a bit.

Is Lamplighter old Metairie? Because sometimes that fear and loathing vibe hits just right.
