I guess this thread has now become an annual thing when the car show is in Scottsdale. This is the cream of the crop as far as car auctions in the states go. The car show started earlier this week but the big time cars are usually auctioned off on Friday and Saturday.

The event is in its 45th year now and is so big that it covers two weekends. This past weekend and this upcoming weekend. The schedule left is

Tonight on Velocity until 10pm
Thursday 5-10pm on Velocity
Friday 3-11pm on Velocity
Saturday 2-7pm on Discovery. 7-11pm on Velocity
Sunday 1-6pm on Velocity

The show can also be seen online at the Barrett Jackson site in case you dont have Velocity.

The best cars get auctioned off on Friday and Saturday night. The best of the best out of these are in the 'Salon Collection'. These usually start around 5pm or so on Saturday. These cars usually sell for over 100k and many break the 1 million mark. Last years million dollar car list wasnt as big as I thought it would be but they still had some high dollar auctions

• 1966 Shelby Cobra 427 Super Snake (Lot #2509) – $5.1 million
• 1950 GM Futurliner Parade of Progress Tour Bus (Lot #2501) – $4 million
• 1954 Pontiac Bonneville Special Motorama Concept Car (Lot #2500) – $3.3 million
• 1949 Talbot-Lago T-26 Grand Sport Franay (Lot #5087) – $1.65 million
• 1965 Shelby Cobra 427 Roadster (Lot #5090) – $1.595 million
• 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing (Lot #5075) – $1.1 million
• 1937 Mercedes-Benz 320B Cabriolet (Lot #5086) – $1.045 million

Here are some of the Salon cars that are going off this week. Here is a link to the salon docket. You can navigate to other days and cars pretty easily.

Probably a stupid question but are these high dollar cars driven around or are they solely kept on display in a museum or garage? Those are some awesome looking cars. Thanks for the post OP

Some of the ultra rare cars probably sit in a person's collection and never see the road. Although some collectors believe in the idea that even though the car cost a million dollars and its one of a few left, its still a car and you should drive it. I would say they are in the minority though.

Love the auction - especially tonight with the affordable stuff. Although, I have no desire to ever own a collector car - I just appreciate the beauty. I'm so thankful that I have no desire to ever own or drive one.
