People are going to go where stuff is open. It’s not hard to understand.
It’s impossible for people to just stay home for months and not go do anything.

OK bud. When I said L’Auberge has a paddlewheel somewhere, you said “you can’t be this dumb.” L’Auberge Baton Rouge is licensed as a riverboat casino. Here is the definition of a riverboat casino under Louisiana law prior to 2018:
quote:
(23) "Riverboat" means a vessel which:
(a) Carries a valid Certificate of Inspection issued by the United States Coast Guard with regard to the carriage of passengers on designated rivers or waterways within or contiguous to the boundaries of the state of Louisiana.
(b) Carries a valid Certificate of Inspection from the United States Coast Guard for the carriage of a minimum of six hundred passengers and crew.
(c) Has a minimum length of one hundred fifty feet.
(d) Is of such type and design so as to replicate as nearly as practicable historic Louisiana river borne steamboat passenger vessels of the nineteenth century era. It shall not, however, be a requirement that the vessel be steam-propelled or maintain overnight facilities for its passengers.
(e) Is paddlewheel driven.
Here is an article written by the chairman of the Louisiana Gaming Control Board in 2017.
quote:
At the other end of the continuum is the latest generation of boats which, except for a legally required paddlewheel, do not look much like boats at all. In some locations, one would have to look high and low for the paddlewheel, but the law still requires its existence and troopers must certify that it is operational. The Golden Nugget, L’Auberge Baton Rouge and Margaritaville are examples of what engineering and architectural innovation have brought to the market.
So again, my point was that the Louisiana Gaming Control Board considers it a boat. I already said it’s a building by all objective measures. If you’re that adamant you should petition your legislators to change the definition to riverbarge.

I even posted a picture of the barges the casino is built on and you still don’t get it.

Then in 2018 they were allowed to ditch these.

So. You may not see the paddle wheel but it existed when the casino was opened.
You're both right. How's that?
And I found where TB08 is married. So I answered that question myself.

Thank you...a "boat" is a vessel that is propelled on water by oars, sails, or an engine.
None of that can be applied to L'AUBERGE
ETA: and many of those paddlewheels you see these days are just for show....the boats actually have shafts, engines and propellers.

The Horseshoe Hammond Casino in Hammond Indiana across the border from Chicago is also classified as a Riverboat.
I can tell you right now it is not a boat. Its a large island with a very large building on it.

Hence my original tongue-in-cheek comment:

Amazing how a simple piece of paper can turn a boat into a building.

I mean, I was just trying to point out the absurdity of the whole thing. My entire point was that it was ridiculous for the state to have considered them riverboats in the first place. Not sure why he felt the need to be a jackass about it, as if I wrote the fricking stupid regulations I was calling out.

Casinos are open b/c 20+% of all gaming revenue goes straight to an education fund to make Louisiana a leader in great public education. Oh the shite we were sold on in 1991.
I am so glad that you said that. My wife was a teacher during that time and what you describe is exactly correct. The teachers got manipulated into supporting gambling. When it passed they were told "we can't put that money in education because one day Texas will pass gambling and we will lose our revenue source, we are going to put that money in the general fund instead".
The government of this state is as corrupt now as it was then. We, as a voting population, are just to stupid to realize it

It's what he does. Smartest guy in the room complex. He's mean every single day here. Maybe next April fools day he'll be nice and post supportive stuff all day.

I was a HS kid heading to LSU and I remember reading about it in the Advocate. It seemed like such a no-brainer to an idealistic & naive teenager. Can we look up who all was involved in that bullshite?

I wish that we could! I can remember teachers supporting it standing on street corners with signs. They were lied to! The state government played the teachers like they were fools.

Yes, screw propellers.....because the prop rotates like a screw. They arent actually referred to as screws like you're thinking
"Twin-Screw" adjective
"Screw" (like you're thinking is a noun)
