Gassed up over half a tank today and shortly after my vehicle suddenly started sputtering, smoking and dying while exiting the interstate. 2023 vehicle, with no prior issues, had to get towed away.

Mechanic friend did a diagnostic test and all points toward fuel issue. What’s the recourse and steps to make a claim with the gas station or is it a PITA?? It’s a large well known place so I would assume there would be other complaints.

Heard this happen recently at a Murphy gas station in Bayou Vista. You can file a claim against the gas station, save your receipt.

Call them. You shouldn't be the only one.

We had this happen to a work vehicle and the gas station footed the repair bill.

The station should be notified of the issue, but others may have already if that’s the problem.

They probably wouldn’t address it anyway.

Do you have a receipt from the purchase? That will be YUGE as it will show exactly what kind of fuel you got. If not, and just have a CC statement, then the station could argue that you accidentally filled up with Diesel...so not their issue.

It will be a PITA, more than likely.

Realizing that maybe I should start getting my receipts at gas stations and hanging on to them for a little while.

Google Murphy bad gas in Longview, TX. Happened around a week or so ago. 100s of cars completely stalled and had to towed in one day. Diesel in unleaded tank mistake, and vice versa.

If the truck is there filling the tanks go to the next station. While they’re pumping the new fuel in it’s stirring all the shite up from the bottom of the tank.

As I see it, if a station is independently owned, there's really no reason not to expect the guy who owns it to dump water into the supply. Most cars will run OK even if the gas tank is 2-3% water. If you sell 1,500 gallons of gasoline a day, 2-3% is something like 50 gallons of gasoline- $150 per day, every day, conservatively.

Where this scheme goes sideways is when Bilal nods off and accidentally runs the cheater hose into the tank for several hours. Now you're dealing with "gasoline" that's maybe half water, and Bilal is going to roll the dice. What's the alternative? He's already in too deep.

Who was the LSU football player arrested for going 100+ mph on Nicholson who said he was just trying to burn off some bad gas?

The main reason I can see to not do this is because all of the water will settle to the bottom of the tank and not mix with the gas. If the Indian guy puts 50 gallons of water into his tank everyday, eventually somebody will be filling their car with water. It won’t be gas + 2-3% water.

This is a good point. Water is typically heavier than anything that burns.

Perhaps there are liquids that are both lighter than water and cheaper than gasoline, though?
