I'm not really looking into the bedside manner niche of nursing.
I'd like to do flight nursing, prison, or ER.
I don't think I'd enjoy it if I had to make rounds in a hospital.

Depends on what state you live in. Some states are making a doctorate (DNP) mandatory now.

ER is still beside nursing...
And to do flight you'll need to be a seasoned RN and also a paramedic.

Seriously, if I had my career to do over 40+ years back, I would have went into nursing and taken advantage of the work and training opportunities to move up professionally once the NP and CRNA came open. I am too old to do that these days, but if I had it to do over, I would have went that route.
....and in response to a couple of other comments, yes, you do have to have a caring attitude towards the well-being of your patients. They deserve that. It is practically being altruistic in your professional perspective, although you're being paid for your services.

Some do not want to go to school that long straight, some like to do it in stages, some rather the nursing model vs the medical model.

You have to nonstop deal with drug seeking junkies, homeless people, drunks....and then the people that actually need care. Will constantly see people abuse the system to use the ER as a doctor's office. Pregnant women coming in for "abdominal pain" in hopes of getting a free ultrasound to find out the sex of the baby. Parents bringing their child in the ER for a fever to get free tylenol, etc, etc.
