When I was single and a travel nurse my ideal situation would have been to meet another male travel nurse to date. We could have traveled all over the country together. Guarantee you that if you are an attractive male nurse....you are gonna be hit on constantly by the other female nurses. Many of them would LOVE to date a male nurse. He understands their work stresses, etc.
2 of my favorite people on this Earth met travel Nursing, saw the Country together, married and now have 2 beautiful kids....great story and couple!

That's actually one of the major reasons I'm looking at becoming an RN. I'm prior military, and used to a field environment. I love the idea of working where others (particularly women) won't. Not trying to sound like a douche, but I genuinely like those types of environments.
That's why I don't want to be a floor nurse (long-term anyway)
I'd like to travel, maybe work as an RN in the federal prison system, flight nurse, or maybe something related to the CJ field. My other degree was Criminal Justice; Investigative services, so I'd love to be able to be in a field where I am able to utilize both.
Anyway, I am currently enrolled in the prerequisite courses to be able to begin clinicals in January. If you have any field suggestions or anything else, let me know. What's your opinion on psych nursing?

I have worked as an ICU Nurse, Flight Nurse, and Nurse Manager for large academic medical center. I hire nurses every week. If you don't have a passion to help people, just try something else. Nobody has a passion for dealing with frequent diarrhea or a combative patient in ETOH withdrawal. But if you like helping people and making a difference to people and families in some of the worst times of their lives you push through the bullsh**.
Flight nursing sounds like it would interest you. The pay is not great because the job is coveted. The hours can be awesome if you work for a team that does 24 hour shifts. Lots of time off. But flight nursing has a ton of continuing education requirements and PR responsibilities.
CRNA is a great lifestyle job with great pay. The school is expensive and difficult. It will cost you 40-80k for school plus living expenses for at least the clinical year. Almost all programs are doctorate programs now so expect the time and financial commitment to increase.
Let me know if you have other questions.

With Psych and prison you are painting yourself into a corner. That's no problem if that's all you do, but if you want a change it will be hard to get into Ed/ICU cardio after not utilizing skills for several years.
With flight you have to pay your dues. You're looking at several years in a busy ED/ICU preferably a Level 1 facility. In addition you'll have to continue your education and become a paramedic to do flight.
Psych and prison do not pay. The large majority of the flight nurses I know took a pay cut to do it, not very lucrative. People do it for the rush, not they pay.

Flip side: I have very little passion for RN but the potential for 6 figures is there, and it's guaranteed job security anywhere. 3 day work weeks allow me to venture outside into other areas of interest.
Maybe off here but I've worked as a traveling PT in La, Fl, cali, and nc. I've never worked at a place where RNs were making 6 figures working 3 days a week. Usually they are putting in 48 hours to get closer to that
