Bacchus and Endymion both are the definition of new money when compared to the old line Krewes like Rex and Comus and Proteus.

Yes that is why Bacchus was formed Mardi Gras was stale and tourists stopped coming. Bacchus modernized Mardi Gras and rejuvenated it. Ed Muniz watched Bacchus with Blaine Kern at the Rivergate and decided to make Endymion a super Krewe and added his own touches. Both parades are phenomenal and are in their own class It’s like the Big 10 and SEC. Those are the top 2 conferences and these are the top 2 parades. There are a lot of great parades but they aren’t in same class as Bacchus and Endymion

Endymion. And the Extravaganza is the best out of the big 3.

I’ve had an absolute blast at Tucks in recent years. Reminds me of what Spanish Town tries to be.

I totally agree that Ed Muniz's imagination made Endymion what it is today. IMO, Endymion started to really take off when Ed got away from the traditional and boring tableau and started the Extravaganza.

Extravaganza at its best can't be beat, but it is dependent on the headliners. If the headliner gets it, and adapts to the crowd and venue, it's amazing. Train has always put on a good show and if Gameday Katy Perry shows up...WHOA NELLIE!!

Back in the good old days, many people rode Proteus, Rex and Comus. Three in 24 hours. And people bitched about Comus not throwing shite. Most of the riders were comatose.

Bacchus also had the celebrity kings going back to the late 1970s.

Um, since they were formed in the late 1960s
1969 Danny Kaye
1970 Raymond Burr
1971 Jim Nabors
1972 Phil Harris
1973 Bob Hope
1974 Glen Campbell
1975 Jackie Gleason
1976 Perry Como
1977 Henry Winkler
1978 Ed McMahon
1979 Ron Howard

Endymion's Grand Marshal being a celeb goes back almost as far:
1974: Doc Severinsen
1975: Dyan Cannon, Bobby Vinton
1976: Alice Cooper, Jerry Vale
1977: Gino Vanelli, Penny Marshall, Cindy Williams, Vikki Carr, Wolfman Jack
1978: Cheryl Ladd, Wayne Newton, Fats Domino
1979: Charo, KC and the Sunshine Band

He actually did ride in a mini-parade within the Rivergate. But not out on the usual route along St. Charles.

Oddly, even Mid City rides on the Uptown route now, but not Endymion. I think it has to do with the trees on St. Charles.

Mid-City (or Endymion) being on St. Charles has nothing to do with trees. Endymion did in fact have to parade on the uptown route in 2003 (Canal Streetcar construction) and in 2006 and 2007 (Post-Katrina).

ALL east bank Orleans Parades are now on St. Charles (except for Endymion, because they are special) because of consolidation for police.

When I was a kid in the 70s, you had parades all over the city: Pontchartrain in New Orleans East, Pandora and Endymion in Gentilly, Mid-City and Pegasus in Mid-City, and Freret around Freret Street Uptown. Before my time Carrollton used to parade around Oak Street (in the Carrollton neighborhood) and Okeanos used to parade along St. Claude.

I haven’t gone in years, but I miss Mid City on Canal. But then again I grew up over there and it was fun to walk to Endymion on Saturday then walk to Mid City on Sunday. Plus Mid City threw zapp’s chips, moon pies, and they’d hand you a coke - it was like having lunch.

And we didn’t get run over

Bacchus : fine Irish sipping whiskey
Endymion: Schwegmann's beer

Bacchus : family watches Saints games from home or a Superdome suite
Endymion: family members all wear Saints jerseys to every game while
sitting in their traditional endzone seats.
Bacchus : turtle soup
Endymion: soup with a turtle in it.

Bacchus : for Madri Gras day, goes skiing in Colorado
Endymion: for Mardi Gras day, wakes up early to get that special spot on
Veterans Blvd.

Thanks for looking that up. I was being lazy and going from memory. I remember seeing Endymion back when it took the original route near the Fair Grounds before it moved to the Mid City route. Fun times.
