quote:I dont disagree. But like I said earlier, women have been seeking attention and doing things that revolve around that for thousands of years. This specific movement is at least fun for the men. Well, at least men that have friends
These parties are also a product of facebook. If there was no facebook for women to post these pictures to, there would be no gender reveal parties.

Does a 1 year old really give a crap about the theme of their party? Just give them some cake and ice cream and they are good to go.
You're missing the point. A 1-year old birthday party isn't for the kid, because you're right, they'll never remember. It is for the parents and family and friends. It is the same reason you film your child's first steps or first words. As a parent, that 1st birthday is a big deal - you've just completed a year of incredible ups and downs and your child is about to have the first of hopefully many birthdays. There are only so many "firsts" you get to have with your child, so if someone has the wherewithal and emotional maturity to understand that, I'm not going to knock them for making it a big deal.
It may not be a big deal to you, and that is fine, so don't listen. The fact the people can be genuinely upset and/or aggravated by the excitement and joy of others is ridiculously petty.

I just miss the good ole days when you found out whether the little bastard had a wiener while smoking cigars in the hospital waiting room

Maybe.
Before Facebook and Pinterest, gender reveal parties used to be called "Bar-B-Ques" and you would just tell everyone whether it was a boy or a girl during a lull in the activity.

I've never been to a party in my life where I was upset with the host for inviting me in the first place. If I'm not enjoying myself I'll leave - it is pretty straightforward. I don't stay there while I'm miserable and then run to TigerDroppings to criticize people who enjoyed themselves.
Not so fast. My first wife would drag me to scrapbooking parties and her baby sister's birthday parties.
MANY of these were on gamedays, no booze, no TV coverage of games.
I missed LSU v Fla 2003(I maintain the position that if I had been there cheering, our season would have been flawless).
Also missed countless big SEC baseball games and Saints games(on TV).
That's how you get to be an ex wife.

I think they're awful and so does everyone else but the host that isn't a narcissistic female. Actually, I think females hate them too unless it is theirs because it is drawing attention to another female.

I bet if we get a poll on age and if they are a parent in here you will figure out why most of the comments are retarded. Why do people have to "vent" about other peoples party on a forum or social media site? Isn't that in itself narcissistic? Can they not keep that to themselves?

What the hell would we do on a message board if we didn't piss and moan at random shite all day?

People do this? I would laugh if I got an invite to this. Total attention seeking, kinda like not wanting to reveal the baby name and keeping it secret, yet make a big deal out of keeping it secret.

I'm an older millennial who is almost married with no kids yet, and my opinion on the whole thing fall squarely under the "why are there so many bitter, angry, short-man syndromed guys?" camp.
I'm 33 years old (only 7 more years until I'm a man) and all of my friends have kids and all of them are busy motherfrickers and i'm appreciative of ANY excuse or whatever it takes to have a party so i can get together and catch up in person. all these guys act like they never went out for their birthday with friends, that's all gender reveal parties are: excuses for adults to get together and drink a few beers. Like most parties, the women require a small portion of your time for whatever they want to do, and then you go back to your conversations. it won't kill your testosterone levels and it doesn't shrink your dick.
and before all these guys vomit up their alpha male horesshit again, yes: when you reach your 30's you ABSOLUTELY require an excuse to have a party. it's hard to understand when you're in your early to mid 20's and admittedly it took me a long time to understand, but it's just the way of the world.
so to all these hard asses, stand tall and proud when you tell your friends and family to frick off and die when they wanted to share their lives with you. it'll surely make you a better person in the long run.

The guys trying to defend this behavior are the ones who have already been forced to do this stuff by there overbearing attention seeking wives. It's the same guys that drive around in mini vans against there own will and try to convince other men it's ok.
Believe it or not, but some of us are actually married to women who don't castrate and humiliate their men.
