As opposed to people who derive their social interactions on the internet.

I worked fully remote prior to Covid. Works just fine for our company. We have people in San Diego, Los Angeles, Seattle, Salt Lake, and me in Knoxville.

The only reason we have a physical office is because the owner is in his 70s and just doesn't want to give it up.

And? My job hours/place of work haven’t changed in my career. I thought this thread concerned those who had gone to remote work in the last few years.

If you’re doing your usual “shite on everyone” thing and implying that because I’m a teacher I lack productivity, my reply is “whatever”.

With fuel prices it’s a big deal not having an extra days commute.

I just took a fulltime WFH position and my wife's (no pics) commute is 8 miles each way three days a week.

She's parked the F250 diesel truck and drives my Honda Accord. No telling how much cash we're gonna save on fuel over the next 3-6-12 months.

Companies are saving a shite load of money on real estate by not having useless employees at the office.

Not to mention coffee, utilities, cubes, supplies etc.

My employer (O&G operator) had "work from home Fridays" every Friday before the pandemic...still going strong with it.

I work a 9/80 @ Chevron

That's close to it. First week is 4 9's with an 8 and second week is 4 9's with Friday off.

Good, remote work has ruined the rural real estate market. regular folks out here can barely afford to rent, let alone buy.

That’s my grief with it

There's people in my area renting little offices for $150/month just for the internet access. They live out in the sticks with crap service. So, not really working from home, but not working from the main office either.

StarLink will solve that problem soon.

I hope so. People who don’t live in rural places literally laugh when I tell them the internet speed that I have at home.

I hated it, I always maintained separation between work and personal life. Working at home allows the job to creep into every waking hour,.

Exactly, because when I walk out of here every afternoon, it all stays here. I was always against working from home.

I hated it too. I could NEVER get away from work. Was there when I woke up till I went to bed. Plus working in the office I have basically half day Fridays. If I worked from home it would be all day.

I am work from home and I'd rather be in an office. I just feel like there are too many communication breakdowns and there are some things better left to in person, face to face communication and meetings. I miss the in person relationships I used to have with co-workers.

I also feel under the microscope more when working from home. I went to go pick up my sister at the airport a couple weeks ago and was away from my desk for an hour and got back to all these missed emails about a quick impromptu meeting that I ended up missing. Got an arse chewing for that.

Now people are talking about going to a 4 day workweek

We worked 4 ten hour days at the construction company I worked for(unless we had a big job or shutdown). I imaging a good number of them work 4 days a week.

You did your usual shite on others as well.

Boomers and control freaks want to go back to office? No way!!!!

Millennials and Zoomers want to sit home with minimal productivity? No way!!!

My company is a perfect example of this. Senior management always hated telework and were forced into it with covid. Productivity was up the entire time. Then comes a memo of how great we've been doing, however, it's time to get back to the office so we can better do our jobs. There's no actual reason to be in the office. With that, they are allowing us to telework a minimal amount so that we can be considered telework ready. That is to take advantage of hurricane season and other various times when we would be off otherwise. All this came out recently, so it's a pay cut just to drive to the office to do the same crap. The wasted money on office space is another topic. Luckily it's only the oldest boomers in the senior management positions that have the need to be in the office mentality. Once they retire, better qualified people will make wiser business decisions.

What do ya'll think about that?

I've worked 4 days, 10 hours a day for most of my adult life and it's the greatest thing ever to have 3 days off a week.

Ah yes. Nothing screams "productivity" like waking up, getting dressed, and driving to physical location where you do the same thing that could be accomplished in your underwear. And let's not even get started on lunch breaks and water cooler talk. Man! Serious production there!

Any manager worth even a little frick can identify minimal productivity in the actual work people put out. You don't need them on site to see it.

This. Yes, there are many job that you can't do remote. But when I used to go to the office, if someone did not stop by my office/cube every 20 minutes to stare, chat, whatever, then meetings where people talk 90% of nonsense and just to hear themselves ... I'm much more productive woking at home.

But hey, at least you office guys can see other people and what they're doing, and play nasty office politics! That works.
