4 10’s > 5 8’s
Give the rents 4 day work weeks

quote:The State mandates so many “minutes” per school year. Most schools add a few each day for a couple of built-in “Emergency” days like when it snows. If that number is exceeded, teachers would need to either be compensated financially or be given days off at the end of the school year.
That’s the way it was explained in the past when it was first brought up. Now it may have changed once they brought it to a vote, but to my knowledge that was the way it was initially proposed.

Avoyelles Parish has schools?!?

It makes complete sense for the schools. In fact, we better get ready for "virtual" schooling. Not 100% of the time, but as schools seek to cut costs, you're going to see more enrichment studies online, more distributed course content and, ultimately, fewer "in school" days, even though instructional hours may not go down.
So, you dual income families out there with school age children - get ready for some adjustments over the next 8 to 10 years (some places sooner than others).

i feel like these kids are going to get lazy in their work by having this "extra day off" during the week but hey who knows it might work out for the best

Schools were never supposed to be daycares

Also one reason why we take kids @3 for Headstart Programs and 4 for Pre-k. Well, not for those lacking ag work butnto accommodate working parents. Especially both working or single moms.

By all means let’s make performance on a standardized test the measuring stick.
The crap that is being shoved down the throats of the kids is ridiculous. They are told what to teach when to teach and how long to teach subject matter. The problem is they don’t teach any if it. The curriculum matches on and parents do 90 percent of the instruction. My wife could home school with less time invested in studying w the kids

Will the kids leave at 5pm and still have 3 hours of homework?

It’s awesome. There are some legit concerns, but we’ve been doing it where I am for over a Decade and there are few to no issues. Everyone tripping about it needs needs to calm tf down because it’s absolutely worth it.
But some will bitch, it’ll pass, and in a year or two everyone will be happy.

Same here. The parents complaining are the ones that voted against the proposed tax and were all in favor of another new charter. A charter that was appropriated school board funds by BESE when the school board doesn’t have enough money to sustain yet another school. So, it’s either a 4 day school week to cut costs or start closing down schools. Either way, the parents won’t be happy but they have themselves to blame for this one!

With common core, 3/4 of their class time is spent doing stupid crap that don’t make any sense and don’t help them in any way except “social liberal indoctrination” anyway....

Common corpse and LEAP testing is the foot on the neck of LA education. There are some magnet schools guilty to teaching LEAP as a priority to get the grades so faculty can get their bonuses. It's BS!

Sounds like it will give the teachers more opportunities to bang their students on their extra “work day” when the students get off.
Posted on 3/13/19 at 6:10 am to sumtimeitbeslikedat
Yea. Good thing Louisiana stopped using common core a couple years ago.

Actually, the school system here has been doing 4 day weeks for about 12 years or so and are good performing schools. They use Fridays as tutoring and catchup days for the poorer performing students.
