Thoughts?
Other places have gone to a 4 day week and have seen not only student success, but saved money (that they can reinvest in the classroom) and overall happier families.
LA is last in education. We should be considering all options.

Unfricking real. Kids can’t pass a leap test for shite. But by all means, let them spend less time in class. This fricking state.
At least our state is smart enough to realize that 4 days doesnt have to mean less time?

Our community is slowly shifting to a 4 day work week as a result.
Baton Rouge needs to do this. It isn't worth it to be in traffic five days a week. I think more and more people will begin to negotiate four day work weeks in Baton Rouge as part of compensation.

Your point is correct except for none of those are in Avoyelles. Those are St. Landry baws.

Friday, they had three tests (I didn't realize any this until after as my wife usually does homework with the kids before I get home). My child, along with pretty much everyone else in the class, bombed all three tests. Turns out, they didn't really cover the material, in class, that was tested, because the kids were at Starbase. Apparently, there was homework assigned that covered the material, but because they were at Starbase, they only briefly went over the homework each day.
I had a nice meeting with the school principal, who basically said, yes, it's stupid, but the teachers have to "cover" the material, and if they took a week off (even though the kids were at Starbase) then they would never catch up and have all the material covered before LEAP.
Welcome to our week every week. The school has tons of enrichment opps. They don’t cover the material in class and it is tested. If you complain about the copious amt of home work they act shocked and point to the brief “homework” they send home. Of course this homework never includes the self directed study that occurs for hours weekly to prepare for tests.
You spend half your time on google trying to figure out wtf to study for your kid.

But I doubt anything changes. A smaller and smaller percentage of parents that care about their kids education are willing to put up with public school bullshite.
They are and will continue turning to private schools.

Yikes. I'll say that's not the norm for us. It was a one-time situation but I find that the vast majority of the time, my child gets A's on homework and tests, and it doesn't seem like the amount or complexity of the homework is completely nuts. If it was, I'd hear about it.

I've had to do that with a couple of math common core concepts, but it took no more than 10 minutes each time.
I'm starting to think your child's school may have a teaching problem. Either the teachers aren't efficent with their time, or, they are having to spend too much time correcting other students.

Actually it's quite the opposite. Private school percentage attendance numbers in LA are dropping. The gap between private and public is closing, and as tuition rises, fewer and fewer people are seeing the value in private education.
Not to mention, for every good academic private school, there are three crappy ones.

Part of the issue is that on a 5 day week administration feels the current curriculum over exerts their brain. The material they learn in 3rd grade now is probably what you learned in 5th back in the day. By moving to a 4 day week students and faculty have more time to relax and focus when it is time to work.
If nothing else it is worth a shot to see if a change happens.

Well you might be right. I honestly wouldn’t know. I’ll have to ask my teacher fiancée how she appreciates it.
But I do know common core in at least its previous iteration was absurd.
