I remember being young and single in St. Tammany and trying to be good and not get a 0.082 BAC and end up as Boo Boo's Special Work Release Gimp. To say taxis were hit-or-miss would have been overly optimistic. "Get a cab" pretty much meant just one guy in Slidell and his cougar girlfriend, and that was in a parish of, IDK, a couple hundred thousand people? I fled that dump for Metairie with Barry Sanders levels of quickness, but the larger point is that avoiding a DUI is not this easy / natural thing that people assume it is. At least, it wasn't so for a single guy in 2005. Nowadays I guess I'd probably just get some app or sexbot or whatever.
