Ok. Makes sense. I thought you were complaining because construction takes a long time so you'd rather not do it. Some posters seem to want everything done in gold and finished before noon, and done for free.

No, I was just saying that its likely gonna take forever to widen i10 and bring traffic to an even more crippling standstill in the construction area and I'm sure its gonna be expensive af, so I was just lamenting the fact that the loop will never come. I mean 10-12 lanes in the split would be awesome no doubt, I just wish they'd commit on a more long term strategy with the river because as I fear that as long as the bridges remain the current bridges, there are gonna be problems near downtown.

2028? That sounds awfully ambitious for Louisiana.

There is a separate study going on to choose another bridge location. It’s being done now. The plan discussed in the OP is not the only improvement to be done.

There was a study done by someone (maybe A&M) that said that adding lanes don't really solve a traffic problem; building another route is the solution. Widening freeways is a temporary solution as the traffic will end up filling those lanes at bottle neck areas. The only relief is at the end where the initial backups began

I don’t doubt that’s the case, and it’s why the BR metro area needs another bridge and a by-pass/loop as well as an upgrade to 10 from 415 to the split where you have a huge bottle neck, a highest at the end of its life and no emergency shoulders and a plethora of ramps.

I like this first phase. In conjunction with this phase a second bridge and a connection to 10 south of EBR to 10 on the west side is vital. The third phase would be to connect 12 to 10 south of EBR.

Add in MovEBR which upgrades key highways; Airline, 30 and Hooper and you will have improved both perimeter and interior thoroughfares.

Sure it’s 20 years away, but it’s a plan. Hopefully by then EBR is still vital.

The studies I’ve read on this indicated that adding lanes is only appropriate when the existing route is has met or exceeded design capacity. Adding lanes ahead of that point actually just encourages more traffic.

Louisiana doesn’t plan ahead at all. They only widen roads that are beyond functional obsolescence. I-10 in Baton Rouge is exactly the kind of road that needs to be widened.

Alternative routes are also needed. For nothing else but to keep the area from shutting down if there is an incident on I-10. Sadly, a major overhaul on I-10 AND a new bridge are both needed in Baton Rouge.

If they have funding, they need to prioritize this now, along with added/improved connectors to outlying suburban areas to the south and East.

They have to rework the exits between Acadian and I-110 to make all of this work. They are finding the space to add an eastbound on ramp from Dalrymple.

Based on what I’ve seen, it’s an excellent plan that will help out a lot when completed. There is no question that the improvements they outlined will be a huge help. I question their cost estimates and their timeline with an ambitious project like this though.

You can see the full layouts on DOTD’s website. Take a look at it yourself. If they can actually build what they have outlined there, you won’t be complaining.

They have room to do what needs to be done and keep Washington as an exit.
I was for closing Washington too, but DOTD says room is there to keep it open.

That's a couple of bottlenecks they need to fix and improve if they're spending this much time and money on the project.

True. Another phase is to upgrade 10 from the bridge to 415.
That needs to be done too.
