Not gonna lie, i have actually never heard a single song he has.

I'm sure you have and just don't realize it. Dude had more than one song with over 1 Billion views on YouTube before his death.
He put out a couple of the biggest songs in the world over the last 5 years or so.

I knew who he was, Wake Me Up and Hey Brother are awesome regardless of what genre they are. I honestly have no idea how "DJing" works, does he come up with the beats? Write any music at all? Is he just in charge of plugging in the Ipod? I watched one of the huge festivals a couple of years ago and when his set started he literally pressed play and just did hand gestures with the headphones on one ear.
