Sure diet plays a huge role, but for the most part, Americans are more sedentary compared with our European/Asian counterparts. Travel abroad for some time and you’ll see how so many cultures walk way more than we do. Some people in Europe walk 8-12 miles a day. We use a car for everything here in the US.

Urban city centers have tons of walkers.

It’s the sprawl that kills walking.

The best thing I ever did for my health was marry a skinny man. I only have about a 6 pound window before it starts looking like he has a fatty fetish. Keeps me on my toes at all times.

I constantly tell my husband, with all the road work they are doing around Ascension, if they don't put in sidewalks they are stupid. I would walk a lot more if they would.

damn I’m a solid 32 and can’t even imagine hitting 34. I’m 180 now so that would put me in the 200s minimum.

Size 38 jeans aren't actually 38" circumference. Jeans people usually make the sizes smaller than your waist size IIRC

Is that stat real?!?

Damn, I'm a 56 year old man, and consider myself a fatass, but my waist is only a 34. I am glad to report Mrs. Mtntiger is rocking a size 6.

This is me. When the 34s start to get super tight, it's time to do something. Usually I just eat a little better at first.

Had a client in the office the other day who was 5-1 and 190 lbs. I know this because due to a scheduling conflict, she had her home health appointment in my waiting room and I overheard the conversation between her and the nurse. She was also on oxygen, had grotesquely swollen ankles, and sky high blood pressure

I have a question:

Are they saying average waist size pants needed is 38", or average waist measurment?

Because alot of pants are actually worn more on the hips, which will be wider than a womans waist

So a Woman with a 28.5" waist or so, would actually need like a 34-36" pants if she wore them on her hips

According to that article, the avg. American male is near a 40 but the most popular sized pants/shorts are a 34" waist. They said this is due to "vanity sizes" and men buying what they have always bought. If vanity sizes are a thing and most common size is a 34" waist, a lot of people have around a 36"-37" waist.

I am just saying a woman’s hips are far on average about 5-6” wider than her waist, and most women are wearing shorts and such more on their hips than actual waste

I could see this skewing the results upwards

I think we have gotten fatter, but I don’t think the median woman’s actual waste is 37.3”

Not a fatty lover, but I don't like woman with the body of a 12 year old boy either.

A woman can have curves without being obese. Everything is not absolute.

That's not a huge waist as a male. I wore a 36 waist in high school as a 6'6 245 lb defensive end and I had 6 pack abs

The article measured the waist. If you were saying the avg. woman's waist was 32.3" but they wore 37.3" jeans, I could maybe follow your line of thinking. The article states otherwise though. By your thinking, the avg. woman according to the article would need a 42.3" waisted jean.
