The mode would be more useful here in conjunction with the brand options by size chart. If the mode is somewhere between 25 and 35, closer to 30, it would make a whole lot of sense.

Well, frick me. I suppose I’m a lost cause.
For my size, I would be 225+ lbs to have that big of a waist. I'd be the size of the cows that pushed this chart to a 38.

So the point of this article is instead of women losing weight, we need to make bigger clothes? Someone just kill me.

I’m far from skinny, but it always amazes me to see just how many overweight girls there are in Louisiana. It takes very little effort to stay a decent size

Well, I’m 6’2” and running just about 248 pounds. My pants are typically a 38 but a couple 40s.
That said, my chest is north of 52” and arms 18-19”.
Should I lose some? Hell yes! At 220-225, it’s a pretty dramatic change......but, I’m not too bothered being a cow

See I run about 185 lbs with a 34" waist. It would take some effort to get to a 38" waist for me.
I'd like to get back to about a 32" waist BUT I don't care to work out.

Any idea what the average men’s waist is?

Well, according to 2010 data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, these are the measurements of the average American man:
Height: 5 feet 9 inches (69.3 inches)
Weight: 195.5 pounds
Waist circumference: 39.7 inches

If he were wearing pants, you might think our average Joe would be in a size 38, 39 or 40, depending on the cut. But, turns out, the top-selling pant/trouser size in the U.S. is actually a 34.
quote:
"Of the guys who actually have a waist close to the average (between, say, 38 to 40 inches), the highest percentage buy size 34 pants (close to 55 percent), followed by size 36 (about 35 percent). Only a very small percentage buy size 38," he explained in an email.

Where does the major discrepancy come from? A few places. For one, "vanity sizing" — where the actual size of a garment is bigger than advertised in an effort to flatter you — is not just for women anymore. Gribbin says the waist measurement in a man's pant is generally 1.5 to 2 inches larger than the stated size. (Or up to 5 inches, if you're shopping at Old Navy.)

Guess it all depends. I'm 6'2 and I hover around 215 and I am no cow. I wear a size 36 waist.
All men arent built the same.

Vanity sizing extends to men, too. I’m positive these guys are wearing 36 pants & haven’t really measured their waists lately.
I’ve been reading a ton of amazon reviews for clothes lately, and I’m constantly surprised that women who are 5’4 & 215 are wearing a size 12 or large.
Vanity sizing makes people feel like things can’t be that bad.
ETA just saw your edit saying the same thing about vanity sizing

It states that later in the article.
ETA: If the article is right, I'm going buy some 29"-30" shorts again at Old Navy. I haven't done that since 8th grade.

Holy shite that's awful. frick me.
I get sad and angry about this shite at the same time.
I know I am fully capable of being fat, because I weighed 50lbs more at age 33 than I do at 43. I made some very simple changes that ANYONE can do without anything crazy.
I have to go up to a 32 or else I look like a skinny-jean hipster in the legs, but without a belt 32s fall off of me st 6' tall and not a slight build.
In 99% of people, there is simply no legit excuse to be that fat.
