What's up with that small purple area in NW Minnesota? Is that where Prince and Kirby Puckett live?

Not surprising in the least that areas of high poverty have the lowest averages.

What is interesting is how much certain state policies/systems matter, though.

You see a lot of areas that are very similar demographically but with very different results on either side of state lines like the Virginia & Maryland borders with West Virginia or the Florida/Alabama or Vermont/Maine borders.

Wow! You cannot say that in here.
According to some of the baws on this board that would make you a commie elitist.

As someone from Alabama, that dark aubergine color? Well, it runs through the aubergine belt.

Curious if people from other states see a correlation.

I keep reading how the majority of public schools around Chicago are basically illiterate but this map shows they are close to national average.

Southeast looks like CFB and college basketball recruiting map. And a Democrat Party voting map.

And the geographical soil map(I don’t know the name off the top of my head). It shows where there fertile soil was back in the day if you catch my drift.

Almost all of LA, MS and AL are below average. When did they become blue states?

I am not surprised by the overall negative score in Alabama. I see this IRL on a regular basis. All of this is related to the lowering of standards in school, lack of homework, and add in that most of the kids who have an F average are promoted to the next grade just because it’s the new thing to do. Sad but true.

Lol looks like an army map showing an invasion. Just need arrows showing purple troop movements north encircling the greens. Greens no longer have access to any ports besides northeast which can be cut off via West Virginia anytime, just a matter of time till purple grinds green into dust…..

You see the middle of the country that’s green? Those are all red states too.

Blue is the coasts. And California sucks too.

The deep purple seems to be similar areas as blue on the map.

The exception being the north east.

The deep purple running up LA, MS and AR is blue.

The deep purple running across Alabama is blue.

if yall are looking for test scores broken down by race

here is Louisiana
LINK

quote:

Trends by Race and Ethnicity
There are very stark differences in proficiency levels across race/ethnicity student subgroups in both ELA and math in the Louisiana data. Black and Hispanic students perform worse than other subgroups, and Asian students, on average, have higher proficiency rates in both subject areas.

Test score recovery has been uneven across racial groups. Asian students in Louisiana saw no significant losses in ELA, and while they saw large losses in math, they have completely recovered. White students have also seen more limited decline and largely fully recovered. In contrast, other racial groups -- especially Hispanice students -- have seen virtually no recovery post-COVID. Math passing rates for Hispanic students in Louisiana remain 5 percentage points below their level in 2019, even as Asian students are seeing higher passing rates than 2019.

Notice how you can skew the data. Most of the green areas took a nosedive during the pandemic after those areas kept schools closed or virtual too long.

Is there any private vs public data available as well?

Not necessarily by race, but I'm curious to see the differences.

EDIT -- If you scroll to the bottom you can create custom data tables.
