re: Average man vs. Ronda Rousey

@FNG, that clip is outright hilarious with her attempting to shadow box. Horrible technique all around. She has no fluidity as every motion seems stilted, absolutely wrong technique for punching at air as she snaps everything at the end and looks to be close to hyperextending her elbows.
Then throw in the fact there's nothing but arm punches with no notice of generating power from the floor up=====not that you punch with power when shadow boxing, but you still practice good technique.
That's why I mentioned in a prior post she has no real striking ability outside of pure amateurish.

Not only does this thread discount the average man it also discounts female athletes. As always, the answer lies somewhere in the middle, I'm not just speaking of Rousey, I'm speaking of female athletes vs average males in general. Your average male isn't a fat chubby soy drinker like this board puts on, it also depends on the age and what that average male is or use to be good at. I played football and baseball through high school but basketball I only played through junior high and wasn't as good in it. Your regular NCAA female basketball player would wear my arse out on the court.
There was a ULM female basketball player when I was in college that played quite a bit in the offseason with a bunch of us guys. She was a starter at ULM but not one of the better players of the 5 starters. She did pretty well even against college boys, most, except me played BB in high school. But she did hold her own and at times could actually do really well. If the top player on the ULM team was playing she'd probably have done really well.
As far as fighting it depends on if the guy could at least get some training in, even if just a few weeks. If you told me I have to leave in 5 minutes and go fight RR, considering I'm in my late 30s and haven't been in a fight since I was in my early 20s I'd probably be worried she'd break my arm, also I pay 0 attention to MMA stuff so I don't even know how she'd attack me. Boxing I like a little more and I feel I"d beat her down with ease though, plus I use to do that some in HS also.
Again, if it's a 40 y/o man but he used to do MMA stuff 20 years ago he could probably jump right in even if out of shape and beat her down pretty good. But if it's a dude who only played baseball and never did MMA and he had to go fight her right now, he'd more than likely still win but it would all just depend, does he miss a punch and she breaks his arm , who knows what would happen.

No she doesn’t. She’s around 150.
I can’t tell if you’re trolling or not, but she fought at 135 pounds.

She looks heavy. And not cute at all.

I’m convinced you could take a random guy from the IT department, have him trained up a few months, and he would destroy the toughest woman on the planet.

The difference between a MMA fighter and a goddamn gorilla is way greater than the physicality difference between Rousey and an average joe.

I could easily last at least 2 minutes with her.
Oh- you meant fighting. Never mind.

Is it?
a wild gorilla weighs between 300-400lbs.
Daniel Cormier weighs 250lbs.
You think he could kick a 300lb gorilla's arse b/c he's a trained mma fighter?
The answer is no, b/c the gorilla, while only weighing 50lbs more than the man, is a lot stronger than the man. Same goes for a 180lb man fighting a 135lb female. lb for lb, men are a lot stronger than women. lb for lb, gorillas are a lot stronger than men. a man cannot match the physicality and aggression of a gorilla, just like a woman can't match the physicality and aggression of a man.

I assumed this was fighting like today, not 2 months to train. Yea you give your average guy 2 months to train and that changes everything.

depends on the gorilla, and the man. the strongest man is about half as strong as an average gorilla. the strongest gorilla is about 10x's stronger than the average man.
The strongest woman ever isnt' stronger than whoever won the power lifting state championship in Louisiana this year, or any year.

Yep. We’ve had the man vs gorilla thread, and everyone will acknowledge that a gorilla will frick up any man on earth bc it’s a gorilla. Putting the gorilla analogy in here will just derail this wonderful thread.
Posted on 12/3/18 at 9:08 am to TeddyPadillac
I do think the hardest part of this is figuring out what the average man is like. Even if we say the average American man is 5’9” and 175lbs, that tells us nothing about who he is. I work in an office setting and the average guy I see everyday is in poor physical shape. The average construction worker or roughneck would be different.
Posted on 12/3/18 at 9:09 am to biglego
I think it's a decent analogy. yeah the gorilla outmatches the man moreso than the man the woman, but the point is the aggression factor. Even if the man was almost as strong as the gorilla and a great fighter, he can't match the gorilla's aggression. Same goes for a woman and man. Men can reach a much higher level of aggression than that of a woman. Now will that man reach that higher level of aggression fighting a woman? highly unlikely, but if his life depended on it, most 175lb+ men could kill Ronda Rousey with their bare hands if they had to. It's called testosterone.

Yeah, but we're talking an above average man vs an average gorilla here. As an above average man, she's still not coming close to being as strong as the average gorilla. A normal guy might be 2x stronger than her.
Go drive around today and look at people. Those are average males. She really could have them just chase her around for 30 seconds, and they'd be gassed

Your average male who is unfamiliar with mma probably isn't gonna chase her around the ring. They, including myself, will probably go the more defensive route. Again, I'm assuming you are told you'll be fighting her in a few minutes, not in 2 months. I never did grappling but did use to do some boxing, so throwing punches everytime she came near me would be the route I'd take.

Better question - your friends versus Hafþór Björnsson
Posted on 12/3/18 at 10:38 am to TeddyPadillac
Not an accurate statement. Formal tests have never been done, only anecdote from the zoos over the years. Saying they’re “#x” stronger is inaccurate. I have a cousin who worked with gorillas for a long time at a zoo here in Texas, and has been at the zoo for 30+ years.
