Last winter we had party with all my wifes family. Some kind of way we started watching wedding videos from my wife and her sisters weddings. I cried a few times seeing my PawPaw, Dad, Uncles Aunts and other loved ones who have passed on. I laughed a lot too. I would spend more on a videographer..... a picture cant capture what a good video can.

I think the biggest difference is editing

most decent photographers can frame a picture, but editing is the real skill these days

I use photoshop almost every day at work... I can do most of this myself.

I actually did this for four shots yesterday for a project I finally got around to finishing.

Most editing, 85%, is probably done in Lightroom which is an easier platform.

Hire some college student with a nice camera. We spent 3500, and I have no clue why. We got a couple of pictures and a damn book. Biggest waste of money I have ever spent. There are so many people who do this on the side, and will charge you a fraction of the cost. Also, you will never look at these pics again. Good luck.

I think most reasonable people agree with this but it's just something we have to do to make women happy

Yall keep saying this but I'm 99% sure this is a man thing. The women in the family look at those pics a lot more than you.

Thanks!
I'm hearing pretty much what I expected already.
The price we received yesterday falls right in there with what some of you are saying you paid.

do these people not put pictures on the wall?

we have a wall full of family pictures, so we have wedding pictures, engagement pictures, bridal pics, kids pics, etc all over that wall

What ever you do....stay FAR away from elizabeth dondis/Magazine St/New Orleans !
Did the Maginnis wedding in St. Farncisville,June 2010, LOST EVERYTHING....made excuses/lies all the way till Dec.{7 months later}, before admitting her gross errors. To this day I don't believe she re-imbursed....unbelieveable liar

No kidding

It's ridiculous how much they charge, but in fairness they do a lot of work on your pics after the shoot. Literally going pixel by pixel to touch certain areas up in every single photo.

If you and your SO aren't sticklers for perfect professional pics, pay someone with a quality DSLR to do your pics. Otherwise, yes, you're paying a few grand.

I had the max package I think:
6 hours
2 photogs
Unlimited photos
Bridal session
Wedding day
Copyright release of all photos
3 month online hosting
200 event cards
Coffee table book
Bridal session book
$3000- Bray Danielle Photography

I also want to add that I don't regret a dime of the money I spent on photos. What I do regret is the only corner I cut, the videographer. A relative offered to do it for free and when I got the video back, the sound was cut out from time I walked down the aisle until we walked out of the church. Broke my heart.

There is overhead like any other small business. Equipment isn't cheap. Most hire second shooters. Albums cost money prints cost money. Editing takes time and is not free. Advertising cost money.

I don't charge much. Just keep a steady supply of booze, weed, booger sugar and finger sammiches around.

We hired Sabree Hill out of New Orleans for less than $2000 (I think) and she did a pretty phenomenal job. Her style is a little different from typical wedding photographers though so it may not be what you're looking for.
