The wedding industry is such a shill.
Spend those extra thousands on your honeymoon.
Same reason people spend a grand on a wedding cake and 3-5k on flowers. You see them for a few hours and then its gone. Is it a complete waste of money, absolutely...its just part of "what youre supposed to do for a wedding".

meh
quality pictures will last forever and most people will keep pictures up around the house
and if you want a quality photographer these days, you are going to have to pay for it
it is what it is

La. Is 1st in something. Google Dennis Reggie of Crowley, now Atlanta. Considered best wedding photographer in the world. Check out his list of clients.

Actually I would say if you splurge on one thing....make it the photographer. Since all you will have of the wedding after it is over is the memories and the pictures. I mean if you have the money....or your parents do, why not?
Luckily a photographer was included in the package I bought from the company that did my wedding and he did a great job. And didn't cost me several thousand dollars extra.

We paid $1,200 for ours, but it was in a small town and she was just getting started. No video, no second photographer, just one lady but she was with us for probably 8 or so hours. We did all the wedding party pictures, parent pictures, and bride/groom pictures beforehand so we wouldn't have to skip any of the reception.
I definitely think you can tell a difference between her work and someone who has been doing it for years and charges 3-4x as much, but there were still many many great shots. Plenty enough to keep us satisfied.

I think the biggest difference is editing
most decent photographers can frame a picture, but editing is the real skill these days

He's the best!
And you're right.. I've seen quotes on his blog. $$$$$$$
But he has a whole list of other photographers he recommends. And if you get one of his staff members that are trained by him, it's much less than if you insist on him.
Dude blew up.

Same for us. I just wanted some pretty pics of us and my family on the beach. And I got that. And I saw y'all's pics. Several great shots

Or just elope and use the $30k you would save for a down payment on a house.

The only bigger waste of money than the photographer was the videographer, watched that dvd once and don't even know where it is today.
those two made up about 10k

How much do you suppose a professional grade camera body and lens cost?

His oldest brother was college friend. Young Dennis and Vicki would drop by on weekends for Saints games.

now a days all your bride will care about is uploading the pictures to facebook or making a shutterfly album. no point in spending thousands for pictures
