No one's spending $31,000 on their second wedding.

A guy who lived in my college dorm got approached by the father-in-law - who offered him $10k cash green American to just elope. He told the FIL he wasn't that brave and declined.

A few months later, they had a $50k wedding with a huge ice sculpture, release of live doves, high class country club reception, live band, etc etc etc. And this $50k was back in the mid-80's. Prob equivalent to $200k in today's money.

Lost track of them not long after. Hope they made it. But I doubt it somehow.

You can barely have a typical south Louisiana, nice, open bar, live music, big meal wedding for under 100k. 31k would be a dream.

I have 3 daughters btw ??

Facts. Wife & I went off did our own thing and spent the $$ on a 2 week honeymoon. Today’s weddings are all about Facebook likes and shares.

Spending this type of money on a wedding is ridiculous. Such a waste of money.

We eloped. We will celebrate 25 years next month. If I had 40k to spend I would put it towards a down payment on a house for my daughter(s), not a wedding.

Talk about not having your wife under control. How many people feed her vanity for one day instead of setting up a solid financial base?

How about just going to the court house?

That, or it would be pretty funny to outsource your wedding to Mexico.

I think you hit the nail on the head with this one:

[quote]I hated my wedding and told my wife that and never let her forget how little she means to me and then I got fat and continued my spiral into alcoholism while refusing to talk to her or spend any real time with her other than the occasional date night I reluctantly went on and complained about the whole time while on my phone. No idea why the marriage didn’t work out. Women are insane and it’s not worth it. I’m happier now that I’m alone and my mom does my laundry.

Weddings are also selfish for out of state guests. You have to buy a suit, hotel, airplane ticket, car rental, and so on. Now imagine multiplying that over the years.

A girl I work with got married two years ago, her father spent 45K on their part of the wedding.

The groom told her on the flight to their honeymoon that he thinks he made a mistake.

Divorced within a year and the old man is pissed.

I have 3 daughters and I can assure you I’ll drive that average down. There’s a better chance of me crapping gold coins then there is on me spending 31k x’s 3

I think mine was $10,000 in 2010.

The wife and I spent $1100.00 in 1986 and that included renting my tux and her dress. Which was bought at a second hand store and adjusted by her aunt

Her parents paid $600 of that and we paid the other $500. My dad gave us $1500 to go our our honeymoon to disney world/Epcot
