Autoweek test drives the 2019 Silverado

You have to credit the folks at Chevrolet for having confidence in their product. The drive of the new Silverado, replete with a new frame, body, and powertrains, was in Jackson Hole, which is over a mile above sea level. According to rule-of-thumb math the naturally aspirated engines were down about 20 percent on power due to altitude, yet Chevrolet had me drive both on- and off-road and do a stint pulling a 6,000 lb. trailer around. And, yeah, power did not disappoint.
In some respects, however, the seemingly perverse move makes perfect sense. Trucks are more popular in Wyoming than bicycles are in Amsterdam. The state’s wide open spaces, mountains and dirt makes the bigger-in-every-dimension Silverado look diminutive against the landscape. That’s generally true across the truck line-up, but as an example a crew cab short-box truck is 1.2-inches wider, 1.5 taller, and 1.7 inches longer than the 2018 model, now 231.7-inches long or just a few inches shy of 20-feet long. They’re big, but also lighter, more fuel efficient and capable.
Not sure about the new 2.7L turbo, but I really want to learn more about the I-6 Duramax Diesel.

Last two pics look pretty good....probably bc you don’t notice that goofy hole where the fender and bumper meet.
ETA Interior doesn’t look like it’s changed much.

They finally got rid of the shitty squared off fenders

I think I like the new Z71 model with the lifted suspension. The article says I could only get the gas V8 with it though.
Diesel will have limited availability for the first couple of years.
This is the GMC Sierra with the similar package:

Wonder how much GM shelled out for that review

I'm guessing the crew cab 1500 still cant touch the room in a f-150 super crew.

Isn't that where some kind of transmitter/receiver is?

A Sierra in a slate grey would be awesome.

Looks like a Ford on the back. And the front is definitely a little different. But the interior is smooth as always. I'd give it a look.

How does it perform around malls and city streets? Asking for 90% of purchasers.

I currently drive a 2018 gmc sierra slt 4x4 but i am very interested to see the new chevy trail boss in person. May be making a trade in

The GMCs look good too.
I don’t get how the squared off wheel wells bothered people so much, but it looks like the new Sierra will keep their panties wadded.

I’d bet that the High Country model with the Duramax diesel will be in the neighborhood of $75K MSRP with all the options checked.
So basically a luxury pickup truck for the price of a Range Rover Sport or a very decent BMW X5. I like the new Silverado, but not that much.
I also noticed that 6 tons of towing capacity out of a half ton is pretty easy to configure from every manufacturer except Toyota now. Kind of negates the point of a tougher riding 3/4 ton truck IMO.

Speaking of expensive trucks, have you seen the 2019 Ram Limited? Not a bad looking truck either. I really like the inside

If a Tundra and a F-150 produced an offspring...

I see GM is actually listening to the square fender opening haters.

Depends on where the put the writer up in Jackson Hole, and for how long.
There's a reason this was done in Jackson, WY and not Detroit.

I think the trail boss includes the Z71 hardware (locking diffs, skid plates, bigger tow hooks, hill descent control, etc.) plus the Dura-Track tires and a noticeably taller suspension.
The new GMC Sierra has a version of it too that looks more grown up and less like a Baja truck.
For off roading, it’s definitely a step above a standard Chevy Z71 or Ford FX4, but not as hard core as the ZR2 Colorado, TRD-Pro Tacoma, or Ford Raptor. More in line with the Ram Rebel.

I did. I may be in the minority, but I love the front end of the new Ram. It reminds me of the old Grand Wagoneers and the 1980s Dodge Rams in a some ways.
I think Ram now has the coolest looking infotainment screen. Ford and GM are probably scrambling to fit a 12” screen on their trucks now.
I wish Ram would bring out a full sized SUV based on the pickup. GM has something like 70% of the large SUV market now. Jeep and Ram are in a good position to take a little bite out of that.
