Hey Rummel. I hope you have a good day today.
Those things look like a hybrid lobster and crawfish.

Crikey! As long as I don't get any in my budgie smugglers. It will be a beauty!

They try to invade Louisiana but cannot survive long enough to get a foothold. Pierre and Boudreaux take care of that problem every April.

What's the problem?
Probably screws with how long you need to let them soak.

These Australian crawfish are not a "new" thing.
Back in the late '60's USL [Lafayette] did a study to see if they could be grown here in Louisiana.

So what was the conclusion?
I suspect I have my answer if I’m not eating 1lb crawfish- man, that would bisque sooo much easier.

Saw a show where Gordon Ramsey climbed up a high ridge in New Zealand for freshwater cray. They're enormous. He treated them like lobster but technically, they aren't. Looked like some fine eating.

They better stay over there if they want to stay off the endangered species list.
Boudreaux don play around

I didn't care for the part where I berated the poor creatures before he boiled them alive.

Those claws are Stone Crab sized. And a fine butter delivery system.
So, some greedy sea gulls see them from a distance, swoop down (accustomed as they are to crawfish farm buffets), and find that these crawfish can fight back.

True.
Both Auburn University and the LSU AgCenter in the 90’s did extensive research in assessing their potential for cultivation in the USA, Auburn in particular. .
But they are semi-tropical/tropical - can’t survive the winter outdoors in Louisiana. Of course the Rio Grande Valley, that borders Mexico, I guess is far enough south that it looks like they can survive winters, at least until a particular harsh one does them in.
They are very good to eat though, no doubt about that.

Apparently the American Crayfish have fricked up England’s riverbanks pretty bad. They purposely introduced them because they became popular for the Brits, but the local species are tiny
