Protect them how? Is China going to invade Australia?

Do you keep up with world events?

China is trying to control the regional seas and making outlandish claims of ownership which affect Australia and the US.

There's an easier and safer way of doing this. Build American subs and let American's operate them.

The problem with this is production. The LAs are getting decommissioned at a faster rate than the Virginias are rolling out of EB. Complicating that is the new construction of the Columbia class boomers to replace the Ohio class boats.

US sub production is maxed out and still can’t keep up with the demand.

All that to say, we may have to think in terms of an Pacific Defense Alliance that incorporates Vietnam as a US partner.
Always thought there should be a Pacific NATO with America, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, India, Philippines, Australia and New Zealand to combat Chinese aggression

it's an invasion but not in the traditional sense.

China is "invading" other countries' sovereign oceanic economic exclusion zones. Many of which are flush with natural resources such as fisheries and oil/gas

It would be like Brazil building an artificial island off Key West and then claiming the entire Gulf Of Mexico's Oil/Gas for themselves

Are those being built out of Newport News?

Any chance we see the shipbuilders around Portsmouth, ME resurrect their sub construction business?

I don’t know if Newport News is getting them or EB. I THINK Newport will continue with Virginia and EB will build the Columbias.

Is Turd banned? Every submarine thread always has the 3 of us in it telling stories it seems

Those boats out of Pearl burn a lot of EHPH

Yeah if I was looking at our boat activity from Washington, it would certainly look like we were burning money getting to and from the Far East. Even from Guam to “location X” it was a matter of a week, 2+ weeks from Pearl.

This gives us realistic cover to park 3 Virginias at Perth in 2022 for “training” purposes while they get their own fleet in order for the next decade.

Hey, at least some submariners will get the mythical Australian port call. We had it taken away from us 3 times damnit.

ETA: I wonder who gets the contract for the reactors between GE, Westinghouse, or Rolls Royce (I believe they build the reactors for the British boats).

What is the point of having a “strong” military in a nuclear age?

Weakening your military because “We got nukes” proved to be a disastrous move after WWII. Without that, you were basically saying people won’t do stuff due to the nuclear deterrent. However, what offense would constitute a nuclear response? Any?

Basically you just told the world you won’t react to anything outside of worldwide genocide.

Australia is one it’s way to becoming North Korea or China. Of course we want to give them weapons.

Let those poor bastards not respond to the mandatory "check-in" app now!

They'll get a sub-launched tomahawk cruise missile up their arse.

We had said port call, and it was in fact mythical. Brisbane, ‘02.

Never, ever, ever before, and never again, have I walked back to my hotel room and had 2 girls standing there with a 12 pack of beer wanting to watch hotel porn and re-enact the scenes.
