I ran across these renderings while looking into the new Google building (under construction) - some tall ones going up.

Amazing transformation coming... LINK

The Google building is "Block 185".

It was just Frost tower about 6-7 years ago.

Now it's a lot of high rise condos and hotels.

Fun fact about the Austin skyline I learned on a Segway tour:

That one goofy building was designed by a Rice alum to look like an owl, since Rice and UT used to be big rivals, he put an owl in downtown Austin

Gonna suck when they have to tear them all down when Austin passes a new green deal.

I'd much rather plastic bags than high rises and traffic.

Kennedy's quote was something like this. " Why do we choose to go to the moon ? Why does Rice play Texas (laughter)"

I guess with the internet everyone needs to get in their car and drive in gridlock to the same centralized location to sit at a desk or something.

At least 3 of the 6, including the two largest, are residential.

At some point you would think that the downtown housing market would get oversaturated, and these high rises would be struggling for tenants.

From an environmental standpoint, high rises are much less wasteful

It's insane. They're still building then like crazy in Dallas too.

Sad that people have to move to Texas just to build a building

Every time Im in downtown Austin it always amazes me to see the amount of highrises that are residential condos/apartments. Looks like theres a ton more housing than offices there

this one looks crooked irl and looks like it could tip over at any moment. wont be surprised when this one has all kinds of foundation and structural issues like the building in san francisco that is sinking.

* the one with three offset levels
