Progression aside...

I almost find it sad. Austin is definitely not what it used to be. My mom went to UT way back in the day. She says it’s not even the same city to her (not in a good or bad way, just as an observation).

There’s growth in SA, Houston, and Dallas...but I don’t see the identity of those places changing. In Austin...I see it as a totally different place than when I was a kid 20 years ago.

Maybe they can figure out what to do with all of the scooters while they're at it

I got a chuckle out of the newspaper article someone linked from the 1800s with someone complaining about Austin changing.

It's changed a ton since I was in college 15 years ago. It's still a great place to live, but the identity has changed a great deal. Weird and funky have been replaced by hip and trendy in many parts of town. That said, I don't think that the city has lost it's "soul" just yet. I rent a small 2 BR house in Clarksville. I've lived here for several years and my rent is super cheap compared to others in this area. I love the neighborhood. Easy access to Mopac to get to work, not too far to walk to downtown, a few blocks from Lady Bird Lake. My landlords are an elderly couple who just want a tenant who will treat the house as if it was their own, which I do. They've been very good to me as a result. I've toyed with the idea of moving downtown, but my rent would likely double at least, and that would be for a one BR apartment/condo.

It's insane. They're still building then like crazy in Dallas too.

it's been a bit since I saw a new high rise project going up in downtown dallas. Seems to have slowed down since uptown got over saturated. Rent prices staying pretty stagnant.

Atlanta in mid to late 90’s was the same way.

huh? Rents have been increasing at a crazy rate. And most of the new high rises are in The Design district and Uptown and soon the Southside area. And huge swaths of East Dallas that used to be the barrio have been scraped and 4-5 story huge complexes built.

Because the other three have always been considered the "big cities" of Texas. Austin was just the smaller State Capitol/College Town - basically Baton Rouge.

Republicans are building these buildings, will be conducting business in them, and living in these condos.

The bars at the base of these new buildings with the tattoo waitress are the liberals.

I’ve lived here 25 or so years . I’ve never lived in Austin but west of CedarPark. It’s all being consumed and developed. While the roads , police, schools ,etc need attention. The left wing socialists city council are spending millions on scooter paths , libraries and free homes for the homeless and non documented aliens. I only go into Austin to work

I was asking more specifically about downtown/uptown. Dont really see many new high rise bldg start ups in the last year in uptown. I figured it was south of downtown, and some east dallas.

And outside of new high rises that I think are setting themselves high I dont think rent is increasing "like crazy" for complexes all ready in place. dallas proper jobs moving in growth has slowed down. Now if amazon were to have moved in that would have changed, but dallas proper isnt getting the tech boom like collin county/north of dallas or austin. Toyota moving to frisco pumped the brakes on dallas proper, and put a stop to the reversing of white flight of the 80s/90s/00s that had gone to far north from "home base". Collin county has created it's own "home base"

Design district seems to have slowed down on new major stuff too. On the multiple projects at one time sense.

All imo of course...
