So... what's that mean?
So apparently not allowing a girl to show her thong strap or bra strap was raccisss or sexist.
My kids attend a school that wears uniforms. But I often talk to my kids about how adults go to work and kids go to school, and part of school is preparing them for the workforce.
No company I have ever worked for would allow an employee to dress that way while at work.
And... these are kids.

The dress code change happened after hundreds of parents signed a petition that said the current dress code does not uphold the district's values of equity, diversity and inclusion.
So... what's that mean?

The updated dress code is pretty lax compared to what it was before. Students can now show bra straps and their underwear's waistband. They can also wear ripped jeans, spaghetti strap tank tops, halter tops and leggings.

It really needs to be up to parents to make sure their kids understand what they need to be wearing anyway.

Inb4: These kids aren't going to work when they get older.....and curse all you racists, sexists, misogynistic bastards who thought that.

Probably a bunch of single moms.
They're doing a good job of setting their daughters up for some sexcapades.
The cycle of single motherhood continues.

We've well established that many parents have no idea how to actually parent.
As a father, I can not imagine letting my daughters out the house to go anywhere with a thong or bra strap showing.
I can't control how they adjust their clothes when I'm not around, so I teach them what is appropriate and hope for the best.

My ex being an elementary teacher in the Austin ISD tells me all I need to know about the school system.

Teenage me would have been a big fan of the update

In theory yes, but let's face it, a shite ton of people are morons and have no idea what it means to function in society.

this may seem ridiculous to most, but dress code reform has been needed in aisd for some time i hear. i had a coworker whos daughter would get sent home for wearing the nike shorts that all the college girls wear.
aisd had gotten very strict and would send kids to the office and call a parent to come get them. it had gotten rather ridiculous.
i am not saying let your daughter dress like a stripper, i am saying in this particular case the aisd dress code needed reform.

I went to a catlick co-ed high school. The normal uniform for girls was a white blouse / dress shirt, with an alternate white or maroon polo.
The girls were not allowed to wear any bra which contained colors or patterns that could be seen through the shirt.
So basically white shirt, plain white bra.

A thong, OK. I get it.
But a bra strap? C'mon man.

I prefer private schools more and more every day.

My oldest kid is 11.
Maybe when she's 17 and not super obvious I'd let it slide if she's wearing a tank or something with thin shirt straps.
