A Chinese company owns TikTok. China has a rule where they can force any Chinese company to turn over any data they have to the government for any reason.
TikTok collects a lot of data from phones they’re on. Thus the Chinese govt would have access to a lot of things we wouldn’t want them to have.

I don’t worry about the tracking and info gathering as that’s done with any number of apps and probably cultivated and cataloged by our own government but I do have concerns on how the app disseminates info to our youth and who’s running those algorithms

It’s so amusing that when Trump brought up this concern the media/left went nuts with Orange Man Bad
it’s crazy how many employees TikTok is hiring here in the U.S. at a time when all other tech is cutting). one conspiracy theory in the industry is that they think of they can get US headcount up quickly, then when politicians try to shut it down it becomes a hot button topic because it would be cutting X number of jobs in the process.
