Sorry, kids. You’ll be using your own data to send personal info to the Chi Coms.

Auburn University has begun to block TikTok on university WiFi and has warned employees not to install the app on school-issued phones and devices.

On Wednesday, Seth Humphrey, an IT manager of service delivery at Auburn University, sent a notice that TikTok users would not be able to access the app on university WiFi or on-campus housing.

The university last posted to TikTok on its official account on Dec. 2. It’s not clear what the memo might mean for popular university, athletics and influencer accounts across the state.

Several other states have banned TikTok for state employees and on state networks, including Maryland, South Carolina, South Dakota, Nebraska and Utah.

The interface of Tik Tok is way easier to use than any other app out there. You can create a high quality video with music, transitions, filters, and effects in less than an hour. Then the algorithm makes it possible for videos to be seen by a significant amount of people very quickly. On IG, you might get 100 views for a Reel. On Tik Tok, you can easily get a few thousand.

Read the terms and agreement. You give them access to everything. They even record your keystrokes.

Auburn is not the first here. Texas banned Tik Tok earlier this week as well.

People that make a lot of those videos usually try to platform it on multiple sites. Tik Tok, Facebook, Youtube, Instagram

A lot of them are in it far monetary reasons so the more platforms you're on the more people you'll reach. Young people don't use facebook that much

Deleted it a while back.

Just look what all Twitter could do and they were regulated and controlled by American citizens.

A communist country literally controls what American citizens consume socially and politically along with having access to all of their private data.

All the US can do is fine them.

I agree, but people, and more so young people, are not the smartest. Props to the university for looking out for their students best interest.

State of Georgia just banned also. They realized State officials with that app on their phone are already compromised.

Rep. Gallagher, who has called TikTok “digital fentanyl that’s addicting Americans,” alleged that the app not only collects troves of data on U.S. citizens but also censors news. “Allowing the app to continue to operate in the U.S. would be like allowing the U.S.S.R. to buy up the New York Times, Washington Post, and major broadcast networks during the Cold War,” he said in a statement.

It’s been banned on Federal devices I believe, had a coworker install it on an iPad and it erased itself completely after a day or two with the app on it and he got an email not to install it again.

Nothing if they have their own smartphones... which you know they do.
