His mother said he "loved the environment" and there was some family "bickering" prior to his leaving them.

How ironic would it be if he got mad at his mom for using AI bc it was bad for the environment and goes out on a hike and the environment kills him. He likely was mentally ill and killed himself, there were probably many signs

environment kills him

The environment is always trying to kill you. Post heavy Boy Scouts/depression area experience, people think that sleeping on the ground bare is fine, for instance.

A large literature documents how ambient temperature affects human mortality. Using decades of detailed data from 30 countries, we revisit and synthesize key findings from this literature. We confirm that ambient temperature is among the largest external threats to human health, and is responsible for a remarkable 5-15% of total deaths across countries in our sample, or hundreds of thousands of deaths per year in both the US and EU.

Honestly, sounds like the kid was fricking nuts…

This.

I know, it is cold to speak ill of those not here, but come on. His mother asks Chat GPT for an activity recommendation and it triggers him to go off and leave the only people (his direct family btw)he knows while in a foreign land? He wasn't right before going to Japan if that was his mental state.

freaky aggressive monkeys they have in Japan

I've been chased by monkeys in two countries, Japan was one of them. But maybe it was the bears!

not even close. Kyoto to basically Mt Fuji area is noticeably far. I guess his reference to 'forest' made ne think of some documentaries I've seen on the Forest. Intentional sad stuff there.
