If this is successful, St George might make history starting a trend to curb urban social justice misery:

Buckhead secede?

Too little too late for Buckhead I'm afraid. They have way more crime than St George has.

They didn’t make it out of the first sentence before bringing race into the story.

Are they building a wall too?

Otherwise it's as pointless as St. George

St George isn’t seceding from anything.

That’s not true. If buckhead starts throwing people in jail while Atlanta doesn’t the thieves will learn.

Isn't St George unincorporated?

Atlanta has several "St George" type city hood efforts that long predate St. George. Including Sandy Springs, which St George has used as a model.

Buckhead would be largely unprecedented because it's truly a split effort (ie, it's part of the city of Atlanta).

Was St. George in unincorporated Baton Rouge? Or did St. George actually secede?

There have been a number of cities formed in Atlanta over the last 15 years but all of them were in unincorporated areas. This would be the first in Georgia to actually secede and form their own city. And if they do Atlanta will be fricked because that is their entire tax base.

If the whole city of Atlanta gets to vote on it there is no way this would ever pass

Like a dog wanting to secede from its ticks. Won’t happen.

Is this 2019?

This has been a hot button issue for quite some time now. Many residents want it to happen but, racism.

I don't see political signs on the issue anywhere but Buckhead, so I don't think everyone in Atlanta gets a vote. The state legislature does seem to have some say in the matter.

I lived in Buckhead not too long ago, and I commute there daily from work. Balkanizing Atlanta may or not be in the interest of Buckhead itself, but it's definitely not in the interest of the metro area, and that's important.

They are also already part of Atlanta proper. St. George is entirely unincorporated and not part of Baton Rouge.

This has been bubbling for years but what got the thing churning again was the mall shooting(s). It really picked up steam with the random pregnant woman stabbing in broad daylight (even though that was truly in Brookhaven) and then what kicked it into high gear is the dude just out jogging in his neighborhood and some random in a car started shooting him.

Yes it was (guess still is due to BR lawsuit), but when a bunch of BR elites play on its citizens’ ignorance with Better Together and One Baton Rouge campaigns and even use the term secede at times to help play race card most just took the blue pill and believe ignorance is bliss. Even as BR keeps annexing in sections of the 2 different St George proposals since 2014 most still believe StG is already in BR.
