Kind of an important detail, honestly. It seemed odd you weren't upset about the other part, and there was a good reason why.

I could also retell the story of the two and a half to three years of shite internet and TV service we had. I could tell you that every time the wind would blow the tv would start to cut out, pixelate, and eventually the entire service would crash (internet, tv, home phone) and stay off anywhere from a couple hours to a week at a time.
I could tell you that I knew exactly what the problem was, that it was a short in a ~15 ft. piece of cable that the sorry asses ran up a pole without any cable clips so that it flopped back and forth any time the wind blew. I could tell you that this was evident just from looking at the pole from my porch. I can recount how I talked to numerous customer service reps over that time period, telling them the problem and what was causing it. I can tell you that AT&T sent at least six different techs out to my house on nine different service calls, always culminating with a line tech being called. I can tell you that I also told them exactly what the problem was. I can tell you that it was finally on the tenth (or eleventh) service call, because they always called a line tech when their sorry assed regular tech failed, that finally fixed. That eleventh or so guy actually gave a shite and was willing to do his job. He went up the pole and checked that piece of cable. Ten minutes later he knocked on the door and showed/told me that it was, in fact, a short in that section of cable that was causing all of our problems.
At least two and a half years, well over a dozen calls, at least 10 different techs, a dozen or so service calls, and......THE PROBLEM WAS WHAT I frickING TOLD THEM IT WAS FROM DAY ONE!
Again, frick AT&T and every useless piece of shite who works for them, except the one guy who actually wanted to do his job.
I have another one where they somehow managed to completely frick my Uverse package when we were changing wireless cell phones and service. I was told that the girl who made that frickup did something that their top of the line resolution guy (a native English speaker from Kansas) couldn't do if he wanted. The two accounts were in different names, and she shouldn't have even been able to get into the Uverse account. It was, or should have been, an impossible frickup is what I was told.
If we ever do get another viable option for internet I am going to relish the day I am finally able to tell AT&T to frick all of the way off for good.

AT&T is absolute hot garbage! Hope you can get some justice for your Dad! Screw AT&T

If this honestly is systematic then that is a potential class action.

I believe it. They were charging my Dad twice for service when he called to have the account moved to his name when my Mom passed. Basically told him they had to charge the full month under his name then the full month under her name until it was “processed”. Went on for almost three months. I lit some arse up over that one and got it straightened out.

I hope you talk to your father a lot I saw a report on telemarketers a long time ago. This included a CLASS on scamming. One of the key principles is to call old people, b/c they are often lonely since they're children have moved away and seldom call. Also old women are often widows. So they're more willing, even eager to talk with someone.
My parents and in-laws are all highly educated people with 4 bachelors and 4 masters among all 4 of them.
My parents are fine. But I have had to talk my incredibly bright and kind MIL out of sending prepaid Visa/Walmart/Apple cards to Indian scammers claiming to be AT&T or the IRS at least 3x.

If I remember right, you are in Mississippi. In Mississippi, utilities are governed by the Mississippi Public Service Commission….just sayin.
Also, in Mississippi, it is mandatory to call “811” to have utilities located before digging. As a result, if that call was not placed, the fellow who did the digging may have to pay for any damages.

Enough said. This week I canceled my only remaining service with AT&T (after finally getting Starlink). They tried to do their normal talk you into staying shite and it was so refreshing to inform them of my feelings for their company.
frick AT&T

you are so right about scammers targeting old people. Some of it is telemarketers, some internet marketing. Last week we had a letter from a faux Wells Fargo promotion. Several months ago a friend found his mil had signed up for 12 car warranty programs for the same car. The only fix that will work is providing the defensive support to avoid getting suckered in the first place.

AT&T is one of the worst companies I have every worked with. Continually trying to scam my business over the years with extra costs that I never ordered. I will never work with them again.

AT&T is the Wells Fargo of telecom. Avoid at all costs.

It's shitty of ATT to put your dad through that, but the cause of this is not ATT. How would he get service with a cut line? It sounds like whoever cut the line is on the hook here.

They may be doing this, but their fiber network is Light Years ahead of friggin Cox communications. Cox is awful.

I totally understand your anger but if you can view it from both sides what probably happened is… he spoke to a person trained to use one tool

he spoke to a person trained to use one tool that can see just as much as you can by going to att’s website, plugged in his address, and said this is what we offer.
Yeah, but there is one problem. They clearly offered more than the shitty hotspot in his area. The guy had AT&T internet for over a decade using AT&T infrastructure. That alone disproves your theory.

I can't stress this enough but take the 5-10 minutes to file a complaint with the FCC online about it
Last time I did it with an issue within a day or two a SVP from AT&T was calling me directly to resolve the issue. If nothing else it's yet another record of their horrible practices

I’m convinced they purposely make their website slow as shite so you’ll just give up on trying to figure out what extra charge they added to your bill on any given month. It’s like trying to navigate tigerdroppings during an LSU football meltdown
