$199 + ($40 x 24 mos)= $1,159
or $25/mo for the phone and $15/mo for the service = $40/mo x 24 mos =$960

You save the $199 you paid for the phone and you still get a new phone in 2 years. If not, you're bill goes down to $15/month instead of $40.

Except my plan would be $25 a month like it currently is because I only have a 3 gig plan.

Plus in order to keep the phone after 2 years you have to pay $27.09 a month.

So it would actually be $25 + $27.09 x 24 months = $1250.16

At no point did I insinuate they are making less.
My whole point is some of you think the next plan is cheaper for the consumer, which is may be for a small %, but the majority are doing something extra and paying more, and AT&T is making more, not less.

As I said before, do you think the person that came up with the Next Plan went to a board meeting and pitched this idea as one that would make them less money?

AT&T isnt' making less. the majority of consumers aren't paying less than before either. But some of you on here praise the next plan and call everyone idiots that think it's not cheaper than before.
It can be cheaper than before, and vice versa. AT&T knows it won't be cheaper for the vast majority of their consumers b/c they are getting more of their customers to do more than they did before when upgrading and getting them to upgrade more.

I'm thinking about this as well. Paying $150 for 2 phones, one unlimited one 3gb month. Can move to Straight Talk or Cricket and be on ATT towers for about $90 a month for 2.

I've been paying $91 a month for unlimited data/texting with a shite ton of rolled over minutes for almost 10 years now (with work discount). I upgrade my iPhone every 2 years extending my contract 2 years each time and paying $200-$300 for the phone each time.

Why would I ever want to switch to a mobile share plan with next and start paying who knows what each month? Then when I finally pay off the phone my bill would still be higher than it is now with less data available.

For new customers this might not be a a bad deal since every company seems to be following this new approach, but for me I would be paying much more each month for less.

Just buy phones off Swappa for the love of God.

I paid $400 for a iphone 6 128gb unlocked on Craigslist. I dont do contracts anymore. Anytime you finance a phone, you lose.

I was shocked to see this as well. I received my first iPhone 3 for free once the 4s were out and then 2 years later, received my iPhone 5c for $1. The screen is cracked and now I have to wait until December to start this shite and pay monthly for my phone. Not a fan.

AT&T makes more money, and spends part of that money throwing up more retail stores so they can sell more phones so our service can get worse by the day. Their solution to fixing that issue is to throttle those customers that they promised unlimited data to years ago and are now passively reneging on.
