AT&T is the shittiest company ever but is a monopoly for TV and Interenet

I've been on the phone 4 hours and no one there has any clue to help me resolve my problem, especially not "Brad" in India. I had an account setup a year ago for a bundle TV/internet. The problem started when they sent 2 technicians to do the job and they each started an account for me. So I was paying bills on one account and the other one in their system showed delinquent. I canceled that account and thought I had resolved it a year ago. I get a $300 collections notice yesterday for that account. I've called AT&T for 4 hours and have spoke with 10 people and no body can resolve the issue with me. They can't even find the account that I owe on. The collections gave me the account number and I give it to AT&T and no one there can find it. So we search by my old address and it shows that I owe $0. I ask for them to email proof of that and we hang up. I never got a fricking email. It's been one obstacle after another with each agent that could care less about my issue and has a 75 IQ. Meanwhile I have to work and can only do this during my work hours. I'm going to send them a bill for the time it takes me to resolve this issue and then take them to collections if they don't pay it.

Yeah they suck. But they are light years better than Cox, who sent me to collections for $12.75 saying I didn't return all my equipment, but never sent me a bill for it.

I had a similar issue earlier this year when I moved and the agent insisted on setting up a new account and cancelling my old one.
Escalate and keep escalating. I ended up reaching a call Center manager in West Virginia who fixed everything and called me back to confirm it was completed.

The only time I can get anything done with AT&T is when I call the headquarters in Dallas. They make sure you get the help you need.

All you have to do is ask the collection agency for the paperwork substantiating their claim you owe money.
When they supply that, show it to ATT...problem solved.

They were great back in the day after they acquired suncomm and before they were bought out by Cingular...when they re-emerged and bought out Cingular is when they started getting too big and thus too shitty

This might be true if you're dealing with Bob's Restaurant but we're talking about fricking AT&T.
My problem with them stems from the fact they won't stop buying other companies and starting new lines of business. I seriously have like 9 logins for AT&T products and their "merge accounts" function is a nightmare.
They've been charging my card for Sunday Ticket from like 2015 but despite multiple calls over several years they can't find the account it's supposedly on. I dispute it with AMEX who just dutifully takes it off every month and tells AT&T to frick off because they can't provide support for it.

It took me a year to finally close my U-Verse account in Houston when I moved to new orleans. I would get a bill every month for it and have to call them to ask to delete my account as I'm not longer using their services. I had to get my credit card removed from the file and they still continued to try to bill me. It was absurd.

Again...probably you and not them...like the OP.
I've had AT&T for over 10 years and have never had a problem with them or their customer service.
But go ahead thinking the entire company needs to bend over for you...
