Doubt it. This isn't like the Ashley Madison hack where just having your name on that list was instantly incriminating.
Without the actual content of the messages, that data is practically worthless to hackers. At least pertaining to the average Joe. I guess the list of phone numbers that a prominent politician or celebrity called / texted may be worth something
They were probably breaking into AT&T's systems trying to steal personal data like SSN's and credit card numbers and just failed to breach that part of the system.

Great, now they have all the spam calls/texts I got from politicians. Hope they spam them back.

If this was true... I would be in jail a long time ago LOL
They didn't give a damn about busting every Joe Blow who talks about buying a nickel bag of weed on their phone. It's all for safe keeping, insurance. Want to find out? Run for political office and get high enough up the food chain. Senator. Congressman. Etc. You'll find out how they know about your skeletons.

They keep track, so you can see your data usage. If you sign in to your ATT account and click on your number, you can see data usage. It shows who you called or texted and the amount of data used. This is important if you have limited data. I don't see any problem of them keeping records, so you can see.

I don't think att does sms, don't they outsource to another company?
Posted on 7/12/24 at 12:39 pm to Midget Death Squad
They are always listening and reading

Am I the only one who’s thinking the bigger concern is ATT keeping recordings of all our phone calls and storing all of our private texts? They claim to not have the content, but I don’t necessarily believe them
AT&T converted their windowless building in NYC to an NSA mass surveillance site. It's considered a "conspiracy theory." However, I used to work for a company that had access to high level network engineers at AT&T and one of them told me about this building and that they did in fact build it for mass surveillance using quantum computing to parse through the data.
So, you should always know that everything you do around your cell phone is indeed being monitored by government agents.

I’ve been getting a lot of random texts from unknown numbers

at&t owns and operates the largest data center that NSA uses to monitor everything.

When the data gets dumped there will be a whole lot of people searching for their spouse/significant others number to see if they been chatting with someone they don’t know about. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

They're going to be bored as hell going through my shite. There are a few spicy memes, but that's about it.

Yep, I always figured ‘ big brother was listening in on our conversations (and reading our text).

In its statement, AT&T said the compromised data doesn't include the content of the calls or texts, or personal information such as Social Security numbers, birth dates or other personally identifiable information.
So what exactly does it consist of?

If they were committed to security and privacy, they would have multi-factor authentication used on every admin account, or any account/resource that had any production (non sanitized) data across the board. They weren't using MFA on the Snowflake database that was compromised.
Think about it: you can't even log into H-E-B.com to order curbside groceries with at least having a one time code sent to your email/text. But 110 million customer's metadata. Too much trouble.

Call records are not recordings. Just a timestamp, source and destination numbers, call duration.
Ma Bell had those records 40 years ago.
